btw, I've had opportunity to check the Foundry Amazon blister at Tactica and have to say they aren't bad at all in flesh.

Nice looking but I've got a bunch of WF Amazons to do. I wonder how these would match up say for Officer/leader types.

Very static poses !
What a pity for a range like this and a cie like Foundry.  :'(

For my amazons, i have chosen their Efve girls (nudes version) with some ancient weapons and shields. I cut off the long ears to give them a human size and all the "too elfic material".  lol

Compared to some realistic nudes they all look bad to me. I've got Hasslefree and the new Bronze Age in mind.

I wouldn't compare them to Hasslefree, as Kev is making very realistic sculpts. This is just thing of another style. Not sure if Hasslefree's style would work for the theme.

But it's a matter of taste, for sure.

I'm glad to hear that they look better in person because these look BAD!  Who painted them needs to work on his blending skills!  That kind of hard edged muscled painting works for
Barbarians like Conan but is not at all flattering for
Female figures.

The Foundry Amazons are not bad actually.

But, I think if I was going to do Amazons I would use Shadowforge's "Dark Temple" minis (fantasy section) as my core troops.

An example:

Exactly,  that's a nice example of the "better presentation case". I did see both, the unpainted Foundry and Shadowforge ones and I liked Foundry's sculpts. Though Shadowforge girls are offering better poses. But I don't like their legs.

The (now) old Elven maids are very stylised - but they have a certain style, anyway. That goes for Kev White's paint job on them, too.
Whoever is in charge of these departements at Foundry's nowadays just tries to copy. And whoever it is, for me it's a fail. The actual models might be okay in the lead. However, they are lacking any consistency in theme and execution. Why, for example, the mix of Pseudo-Greek and Pseudo-Persian styles? Why the shields with Sparta's Lambda on it? Why had these horses to be altered with plumes and new manes - for the worse?
In general, there might be the odd model which looks a bit better than the rest. But still, Foundry asks for a heavy sum - which I find, if just compared to the quality of their older ranges, unreasonable.

If I was to paint Amazons in hoplite wardress, I would choose Eureka's range - or, failing that, Wargames Factory for their price tag.

I always envisaged amazons more akin to Thracians than greeks and didnt they amputate their breast to enable them to shoot bows?

Yes, they supposed to have cut (or burnt!) off the left breast.

I always have seen them being more of Scythian origin, just like these female Foundry Scythian sculpts.

Btw, found a pic showing two common interpretations. I like the right one better.
