Konigsberg Gun on the German Steamer Goetzen

Taken from a postcard in a private archive. The same photo, beside was from a book.
The photo show a 10,5-cm-SK on the German steamer
"Goetzen” at mid of October 1916 on the North-Western side of Lake Tanganyika near Uvira. This gun was used from mid
August 1915 to Mai 18th 1916 on this ship. It was the gun no.6. Korogwe in the list: Ten Koenigsberg guns.

Now I can see Grimm sighting the gun and a very young Poly as commander of the gun crew. Okay Peder, you have the arduous job of opening the breech!

I can't help but notice that no 2 people are wearing the same uniform. I think there maybe 2 white sailors's caps the same. Helen, you say it is a German steamer, what nationality is the crew?

Hi Paul, They are German sailors of WW1 on Lake Tanganyika in East Africa.

So, what of it?! The ships doctor, Herr Doktor Major Fitzenstrahl had forbidden me to do strenous work because of my hernia. Beside, that's an important job, that is. If no one opens the breech no shot can be fired.

Look how Poly is giving me the eye, there... He had it in for me already back then.

I shure hope that's an used shell he's putting in the bag. Dropping a cartridge on its projectal head like that could be dangerous.

Great image. Wonderful uniform variations. Sure beats having them all in tropical whites. By the looks of things half of them are half-wearing khaki.

Despite being scuttled by the Germans, the Liemba as they call her now is still doing her thing.

Hi Peder, This scene would look great in any scale above and including 28 mm. I hope someone is reading this and are making plans to do such an undertaking.

Helen, Goetzen was the one built in Germany and then disassembled and transported to africa by boat and then transported across africa and put back together to harrass the brits on that lake, correct?
