Love the angels' marble dais bases just as much as the gladiatorial staging! Whew.

Where are the angel minis from, LF? I don't recognise 'em.

Nice gladiators Lead!

I'd planned on doing some gladiators for one of the rounds, but it never happened.  :?
well, next year!

Tomogui: Thanks  :)  They're all converted.  The basics of them are all Reaper, but only the 2nd from the right was intended as an angel & had wings- though he had an axe & a laurel wreath (which I replaced with sword & shield), the others where reaper minis that I added wings to, the center, 'arhc-angel' is a 54mm mini, and the 2nd from the right has had a head-swap.

Impressive LF, that might be the best marble painting I've seen to date. Interesting idea mixing in the 54mm, works with the theme quite well.

I enjoy the way the gladiator scene makes me feel like a spectator, very nice.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

The gladiators are lovely and the tonal togetherness of the Host is marvellous. The marble perfectly matching the armour and wings is fantastic

Oh my goodness

I like the Missio scene, I really do

but that Host ... o wow

Could you please explain how you painted the marble for the dais? Pretty please?!

Great job, both of you

Thanks for the kind words :)

I should have taken some work in progress pictures while I did the stages of the bases, I've had requests before for a tutorial for how I do marble, and I'm guessing pictures would help make sense of it- something more helpful than, 'look at marble, paint it like that then'  ;D  When the round is all done I'll post some individual close up threads, and if I have time I'll do a blank base or a statue or something to help explain the process though can't promise that won't be until after I have round 10 done and entered.. so much work left to do for that  o_o  but I'll try to do that Artshiraz

re: 54mm mini, Thanks Dr.M, I always liked the hierarchical scale used in Medieval art, so seemed fair game for them

-My favorite detail on the gladiators is the blood soaking into the sand, nice touch!

In all fairness, I think you should paint one of my Salute06 Arthur v. Mordreds:

to make up for "allowing" you to soundly kick my a$$ this round! ::)
