28mm Suitable Modern Civilian Boats............?
« on: January 29, 2008, 10:18:56 PM »
I've been searching for suitable modern boats ( cabin cruiser size) for 28mm gaming and have pretty much come up blank.
The only model I've found is a 1:56 scale fishing boat by revell:

It looks pretty good but still only gives me one boat!

I'm looking at doing a Marina set-up like in The Dawn of The Dead ( although post-apocalyptic "WaterWorld" type mayhem also springs to mind!!)

Any ideas?

You could also strip off the military look of the Coldwars river patrol boat for Vietnam

I think Old Glory or rather Merrimack in the US do Brownwater navy too

I would have suggested the Ainsty/Old Crow boat.
It is a resin cast hull with a choice of finishes, either the cabin top in LTDs photo or a smaller piece that gives more of a speedboat look.

Are you anywhere near the coast ?
I have a vague memory that most places in the UK are no more than 75 miles from the seaside.
Quite a few cheap seaside shops sell souvenir boats, mainly fishing boats here in Scarborough or Titanics, but you might find other options there.
The fishing boats have quite a bit of potential, especially for Guns of Navarrone type settings.

Great scenario idea Pappa. I love the idea of a marina :)  I vote for the Ainsty/Old Crow boat for starters.
