28mm Dogs
« on: May 10, 2012, 05:04:32 AM »
Hey Folks,

What are the good dog figures in 28mm?  I have the dog with the eye-patch (I think he's a Pulp Figures model), and I use him as Bob the Wonder Dog, but what are the other fun dog characters?

Thanks ahead of time.

I do believe there are quite a few, even if you don't count the mutant and the were versions - unfortunately some of  them come in packs with a handler that may be of little to no use.

Do you have specific requirements on the breed, the type (say, a warhound vs. a pooch) etc.?

Check out Hammers' old kennel club thread from a few years back, for a fine array of 28mm scale canines...

Pretty sure the eyepatch dog you mention is Pulp Figures - from the Buzz Barker's Island Hoppers pack.

PF also do a great bulldog in the Rugged Heroes pack.

Warlord Games do some Mastiffs that I really like the look of. Going to have to throw them into my Warlord order when I finally get back to ECW and need to expand my forces!

Sgt. Major Miniatures has more Mastiffs, although they don't look quite as nice as the Warlord ones.

DeeZee used to do some very nice mastiff-like big dogs, but they're out of production and haven't (yet) reappeared on Acheson Creation's website.

Black Cat do the dogs from the Obelisk gangsters sets separately if you're after something fierce looking.

I have a feeling that Hammers was also keeping a list of all available pooches in 28mm, but he may have let that slip recently...

Mega Miniatures has a nice selection.

Can you believe I painted a Scottish Terrier for my Round 9 LPL entry and forgot to put him in the picture?

Didn't GW's Specialist Games make several dogs for their Mordheim game?

Thanks for the suggestions.  I was looking more towards spunky hero and sidekick dogs.  There are a couple of those Mega Miniatures pups that will have to go into my collection.  I am very fond of scruffy Benji or Tramp type dogs, and think that they would look good on the table top.

The Kennel Club thread is great!  Had I known about it I would have offered up Dirk Daring and Bob the Wonder Dog.  But then, Bob has a better paint job then Dirk...and tends to be much more heroic, I mean Bob is the doom of all robots and mummies.  A veritable whirlwind of flashing fangs!

If Hammer has a list of 28mm dogs, could someone point me to it?  I'm beginning to channel a series of pulp games with a cadre of cavalier canines as the lead characters (Hmm...a "handler" or maybe a group of kids, masked villains, and an alien invasion...I need more Martian Zombies from Pulp Figures!).

Anyway, thanks for further enabling my lead/plastic addiction.

I love those mastiffs. I have no use for them but would still love to buy some!

Cheers
