I was looking more towards spunky hero and sidekick dogs.  There are a couple of those Mega Miniatures pups that will have to go into my collection.  I am very fond of scruffy Benji or Tramp type dogs, and think that they would look good on the table top
In that case, some that haven't been mentioned yet (I think)...

You can't get much scruffier than the Carnivale pariah dogs - not very spunky tho and come with a handler you might not need:
http://www.wamp-forum.com/content.php?1126-Carnevale-preview-the-Dogkeeper!

OTOH Taban's Eden Convoy bullterrier is the very epitome of "spunky" but unfortunately I think it's only available in the starter set:

Tale of War have a very dignified-looking greyhound type as a parter to a female pirate from their Ron and Bones line (I do believe their scale is "off the chart" for 28mm tho so the pirate lady is likely to be a bit of giant):

Finally, Black Cat, IronWind and Reaper have some that might be of interest:

Happy to take the Carnivale handler off someone's hands if they don't want? Really nice slave driver.  :-*

Yep, the dog handler should work for any two-fisted adventures in the Middle East fine enough, but I'm not sure if it's too gritty for what the OP has in mind...

Anyway, I don't think anyone mentioned Hassefree's Scooby-Doo Hamlet yet?

Looks a little scared perhaps but that can be amended a bit by not painting his eyes white :P

I'm a big fan of the dog by Degra Miniatures:

(30mm base, so yes he's tiny!)

And the Pulp City dog is supercute!

Sorry to necro this thread, but there's a nice offer by Mega Miniatures currently. 18 dogs for $12. Nice start to a kennel club :)

It's a shame that even the Mega Minis set doesn't contain a Corgi - of either breed.

Meanwhile...

...Hamlet now comes in a kitted-up version as well:

I suppose the cap was a necessary nod to the silly factor of a not-Scooby-Doo...

MM are a bit lacking in defenition but I guess they are OK. I have all of them.

Here are some others:

SgtMjr Miniatures (formerly Vendel) mastiffs. These are great. Lots of character.

Obelisk miniatures, doberman, Yorkie, Strafforshire, bulldog and Altasian. Unfoirtunately these are not separately (well, I managed to wrestle some from the owner buy showing pics of my 28mm kennel club).

Reaper Miniatures makes a pug as a part of a familiar pack. A bit large but a nice sculpt. Apparently they a have a few others now also:

Eureka makes a few dogs under their Pax Limpopo range. A royal poodle, an Altasian and a bull terrier I believe. All very nice but a tad small. I think they have added a some hunting dogs recently.

Mirliton of Italy makes a few very nice domestic animals for their medieval diorama range. Here are cats and dog. I painted one as a blood hound the other works well as a English setter ( the dog miniatures, that is, I am not *that* good a painter.)

Hasselfrees Great Danes have been mentioned right? Stonking minis.

if you are looking for really mean looking, slightly overlarge curs have a look at Chronopias

...or Rackhams ...

I think they are OOP they are can be found somewhere, surely.

There are more obviously...

@Hammers: All the Obelisk range is now available individually from us, (we have it under licience). Josef still sells direct himself as well of course but not as individual models.

The dogs have been very popular since we started selling them seperately, they can be found in our animals section here: http://blackcatbases.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=437_438&sort=20a&page=6 we also have dogs in our own range and we have just added 3 new ones all sculpted by Josef Ochmann who sculpts and owns the Obelisk range.

Jo:)

Micro Arts Studio have added a few new minis to their Wolsung range. There's a character called Sir Zachary Fiercebatten III who is accompanied by two rather fun looking Basset Hounds:
http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/sir-zachary-fiercebatten-iii-p-687.html

However I think they only come with the portly steampunkish gentleman hunter that, again, may or may not be of use.

Great! I have been on the look-out for a basset. If anyone has one and is willing to part with it I'm the guy to talk to.

GW's Farmer Maggot and hounds from their LOTR range supply three pretty good dogs. Here's one next to an Artizan pirate for scale:
