Utrinque Paratus - ready for anything
« on: June 07, 2013, 07:15:12 PM »
Following the motto of the parachute regiment this little fellows were thrown in some fights using the "Operation Squad" rules.
But before they had to be dusted off, as they had been hanging around for a couple of years without seeing any service.
So I did some cosmetics to their bases and started to repaint their hands and faces.
Luckily you just need a couple of minis for Operation Squad, so this was no big deal (but still working on the others).
Here are the first results:

For a good WWII game you need of course some walls ;) I had none, so I bought a set from Warlord Games and painted them.

The miniatures are from Foundry.

At least one that needed no "face lifting"  ;)

That medical Officer is from Warlord Games, ordered him with the walls. At that point it was pretty helpful that I still had that scrap piece of paper where I had noted the colors I had once used. Although I did some changes on the palette, but I think he blends in.

Looking good there. Prepared for anything other than an unexpected SS Panzer Division popping up, unfortunately.  :-[

What do you think of those rules? Some nice original ideas in there, but I get the impression things could get a bit confusing in play. I actually bought them the day I last saw you, at the show in Hamburg. The Warlord lads were selling them under the counter on the sly, as if they were porn (you had to ask, and know the secret handshake) - because they have a Swastika on the cover. Made me feel kinda... dirty.  :)

Haven't actually played them yet, even though that was, what? Two years ago?

At last they gave Gräbner a good cooking :D

Now as you mention it I can remember that you've showed the rule book at that occasion, yeah it's a while ago. I have the second edition, no swastika anymore.

I 've played the rules 3 times till now and they are fun. I guess your concern is about this act/react thing. I wasn't sure how this would turn out but I liked that idea from the start. In the first game we had a lot of reactions but rarely to the max. And we found out that it is not a good idea to react on every occasion as having more miniatures left to activate is a big advantage. So it turned out to be a very fluid game despite my concerns about that point.
