Forgive ignorance, what are they, they look v nice but cannot work out the nationality. Russian? Polish?

Can't be Russians. They're armed with Mausers, it looks like, and the Russians were using the Mosin-Nagant. Maybe Soviet-backed Spanish Communists?

At first I thought they could be Border guards for my Soviets in Afghanistan but then realised I should have known about them, then I thoguht they could by troops for Ireland but finally looked at the thread :oops: rather than the pretty pictures :

Thanks for posting the pics Phil, ran out of time last night to put them anywhere else.

The figures in the officer types hats are Assault Guards, a Spanish paramilitary police force, they fought for both sides, but mainly on the Republican (Leftist) side.
The other pack contains Soviet advisors for the Republicans, quite a few Soviets helped out on the Republican side, advising and training the Ejercito Populare and other Republican units.

Wonderful work again by Paul Hicks, who is rapidly becoming one of the best sculptors out there.

Absolutely beautiful, I will have to get together another order soon. I'm planning on using these as Nationalist Asaltos like the ones that helped storm Badajoz in 1936. Since they are in uniform and not monos they can be used for either side. Republican Asaltos could be identified with an arm band on the left arm that was striped in the colors of the Republican flag.
