It's not quite the same system, as LotHS is a Pirates game based on the  LotR-rules (like LotOW).

But there might be some useable ideas in there never the less...

I think there are as long as you and who you play with agree to it.

At some pont and if you are lucky with your crew you might raise enough revenue to build a larger ship or have taken cannon form other ships etc.

I would play it like the large and huge ships in the ahoy rules with the size of the ship equating to buying and fitting out additional extra small ships with the added hit points as would the additonal decks. In reltion to this it could allow more crew.

for example my 30 gun 2 deck ship would be classed as huge it has 2 decks so would need to be paid for as 30 large ships, the guns would be paid for individually and it would allow for 90 possible crew.

also what I like are the Naval guns which prohibit any arc of fire, this would limit the effectiveness and mean you need to get a good broad side. They also require 2 or 3 crew

Another point is the limited turns making them slower which would give smaller ships the edge.

Perhaps when a big beastie like this sails you would give the opposition the ability to bring in other ships either as players or NPC ships along for the booty? so in the above you as the player would have your own ship and have two others as other palyers or NPC.(here I would ignore size)

Just some ideas I have been tinkering with.

The Brig is about 16 inches if memory serves me and tis is where it is ideal for LOTHS it has a single deck and 10 guns so is ideal

The  American cutter looks worth getting 8 guns and it seems a lot cheaper?
From their Gunboats range. I also notice that the 40% discount card applies internationally but you must buy fomr US website? anyone got one as it would be worth it if a group wanted to get ships and crew to pool together whats $50 about £30 or 4o euros

As they refer to LotHS, which I received and read yesterday, I must comment that I think they're actually a tad too big for that game. The ship rules are designed for small vessel action (largest man'o'war is a frigate) with a maximum of 10 cannon per ship.

Argonor,

Yes I made the largest ship only hold ten cannons, but as I mentioned in the Limitations to cannons, there is nothing stopping players from using more cannons. So you still can use the OG ships, I just for game play, limited the ammount of cannons to 10.

Tim Kulinski

And cheers for that! I will be trying to keep things 'low-powered' for starters though - I've already started making a ship from the templates in LotHS (and expect to make a few more  :D ), and I've started to make a set of 'Grand Tactical' campaign rules for moving small ships around on 90cm x 90cm sea boards using Wizkids 'Pirates of the Spanish Main' rules (+ the expansions, notably 'Davy Jones' Curse'   ). Then when a Player Ship starts a turn within close range of anything hostile, focus shifts to 28 mm scale.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

They probably don't have the new ships yet, but I believe he carries the older ones.
