Boxer Rebellion buildings - Second base finished
« on: 10 June 2012, 09:51:49 AM »
Well, I've finally made a start on the Boxer building range that I've had on the drawing board for about a year, if not longer.

There will be a more complete selection of buildings before they go on the website but I'll use this thread for progress updates etc.

I'll be making ruined versions of most of the buildings and walls but for starters I've got a generic Chinese house and wall section

The house - 100mm long, 70mm wide and 73mm high

The wall - 150mm long and 44mm high

And some comparison shots with a Foundry Imperial Chinese soldier (please excuse the red base)

It'll be a month or so before these get on the site but I've also got the British Ligation entrance on the workbench at the moment but it's a bit big  :?

The wall shown is a more generic Chinese one, I'll also be making walls that are more ligation quarter specific along with some (hopefully) recognisable buildings.

The walls of Peking itself... We'll see  ;)

cheers

James

Okay if you like that sort of thing, but it doesn't look much like medieval castle....  ;)

Wasn't there someone decrying the lack of Chinese (rather than Japanese) buildings recently?  I hope he finds this thread.
Back from the dead, almost.

Very nice work, as always! There is one detail, though, that jars this occasional China hand's eyes, which is that the tiles look more modern-ish Japanese (sangawarabuki - tiles with integral flat and curved sections) than traditional Chinese in design. Regardless, most people probably won't notice, there could well have been exceptions to the traditional tiling, and the overall effect is great!

Lovely stuff as always.  :-*

I've been wanting to do a Chinese Fantasy / Horror theme for a long time and these would be great.

Sweet looking buildings.
I started messing with the Boxer Rebellion in the late 1980's.
May have to restart it. lol

Thanks very much chaps  :)

They're not Japanese, they are actually Mediterranean pantiles but they were the closest thing that I had to the reference photo at the time.

There will be other buildings and walls that have a more recognisable tile to them.

cheers
