Who does the best Victorian coppers?
« on: July 02, 2012, 07:12:14 PM »
All this talk of EotD has rekindled my interest in Victorian horror (found I have quite a few miniatures for it as it is). So who does the best looking policemen?

Preferably similar in size to the LAM ones which I will also be ordering.  :)

I'll consider either (or both).  :)

So, what do we have to choose from....
Foundry
West Wind
Artizan (pulp)
Eureka

What else?

I rather like the Westwind ones, however they may come up bit small against the LAM ones.

A better fit would be the Ironclad Miniatures armed policemen.

I've got the westwind ones and the inspectors, note the height difference, mount then on a curbed base not a 'road' base and job done really. LAM stuff is a little more bulky, (from the post apoc stuff I have) so you'll always going to have that sculpt difference. Shouldn't pose a problem.

(And yes Seb it's got me too! :D)>

I've got the westwind police and inspectors, I agree, they'll be smaller than the LAM ones. The Foundry figures are chunkier and will probably fit in better, they're also better than they look in the pics. I'm not a fan of the new foundry Victorian era stuff in general but I had a good look at them in Foundry a couple of months back and I was pleasantly surprised by the police. They're chunky but not horribly so like some of the others and I'd be happy to own them. (They'll never be forgiven for destroying the Frontier Light Horse though).

Of them all I think my favourite are the Artizan police however. Just had another look at them and I don't see why they couldn't be used as late 19th Century police, although I'm sure someone will chip in with a reason :)

I also looked at the Design 28 ones, but a lot of those figures seem to have fat heads.

Ironclad are near the top of my list, though I'll take another look at the Foundry ones (I too, don't like a lot of the new victorian stuff, mostly due to the broad square shoulders on almost all of them, but they do provide the numbers for the coppers and some of the other packs offer tempting subjects too).

Artizan are near the top of the list as well, though I presume they will be small and I wondered if they are really suitable for the period (not knowing much about this really).

I know Wessex Games does some as well, but they no longer seem to be on the site.

Check out my blog at:

http://maliciousintent.6sided.net

Go to bottom of page there's a big pic of both artizan and westwind coppers.
They go together perfectly. Only difference is the artizan ones have a metal knob
on the top of their helmets, westwind don't. Should be ok for very late victorian coppers.

Thanks for these.

Question: looking at your blog...Why don't you just play EoTD??? As it's currently looking very similar,

If you're planning on doing any games set in America (like me), take a look at the TVAG Crushers (scroll down)

I thought they were 5 for a Fiver?

The middle one reminds me of Edward Judd as DCS Arnold in Jack the Ripper!

Commander - My rules originally started out asFantasy, long before Eotd.
A few weeks before Eotd was announced  I decided to do a victorian horror version,
bad timing I guess. But I've started, so I'll finish.
