I like the Samurai! Good paintjob. I like this subdued (right englisch expression?) colours.

What a coincidence, just yesterday night I prepared excatly the same mini to be undercoated (together with 7 others).

I bought him last year from foundry. I am a little afraid to paint them, because some have so many details on them.

Do you have more pictures? I have never seen this citadel Samurais painted.

Wargames Foundry are selling OOP Citadel Nippons?  :?:

I like this Ronin, his face is looking great.
And I think I have an orc from that time that has exactly the same knock-knees. *g*

Maybe I should pick up some Citadel Nippons as well. A small, selected hit squad could always be usefull...

Can you tell me if they have got slot bases?

No, these are pre-slot bases. There must be a large variety, I have about 50 and only a few doubles.

I would like to see you paint samurai minis. Do it Witchfinder! Buy some!

Are you just wondering that they do or do you think I am wrong?

This are 4 of the figs I bought from foundry. Maybe it was not last year but the year before.

And I am quite sure that the second from left is the same as Tim painted.

Foundry have the moulds for the Citadel's 80's Oriental Heroes and are selling them in these 'Archive Catalogue' packs:

Quote: "SAM1 contains 6 Samurai (seem to be lords), SAM2 contains 6 Samurai each in different poses, SAM5 contains 5 Samurai and 1 ninja in different poses. SAM3 & 4 contain 6 Ashigaru in different poses. Bernard (Foundry Staff member)"

And here is a link for the old Citadel range:

(They are only drawn pictures)

I don't know, this sounds very strange to me. But now as 2 people say so... damn, this is fucking crazy. Always when it comes to re-issues GW/Citadel says there won't be any and claims all moulds have been destroyed etc... and now I read that one can buy from another company some minis that have been out of production for decades...

Tim, I'll paint some for sure. But I've got to be choosy. I don't want more than 5 - 10 of them so only those I really like come in my collection.

I do not know how Foundry have the moulds. Maybe the moulds where sold when Citadel was a seperate identity to GW - sorry I do not know for sure.

I read on the net some where, that in the late 70s (when Steve Jackson was on the scene) and early 80s, Citadel produced historical and fastasy miniatures. I can remember in the 80s, that Citadel was making the miniatures and GW was writing the games. I think it was the late 80s that GW took over the whole operation.

If anyone has any more information, please comment - as I am now old (40) and my mind does not work as well as it once did :D .

I was under the impression that Foundry has a number of old Citadel lines available, inc. these Samurai and the older Vikings. I have a few older slotta-base Vikings that are under production as cast-on base models from Foundry.
I believe you have to call up Foundry to get the samurai packs, as they seem to have slipped into "archive hell."

If you order all the packs you get the ninja free!

Foundry have always had these figures for sale, right from the start when they were Wargames Foundry because they sold all the Citadel historical lines once Citadel stopped marketing them directly.

i bought my complete range in 2005.

There's 30 including the ninja which you only get if you order all the others.

I have about 50 (I have not actualy counted them, some are doubles) and also the ninja - all bought in the 80s from Citadel. Some of them I bought as a box set and came it with a ogre mage. I am not sure if you can still get that ogre mini. If I have some time this week,  I will dig them all out of their storage box and take a photo and post it on the forum. It maybe of interest to some.

Foundry don't do any of the oriental goblins etc. since they are fantasy and were retained by Citadel.

Later slotta base figures will be exclusively Citadel or GW also.

The 30 Foundry figures contain all the one I originally bought as they were released and several I'd never seen before. They are all Aly morrison sculpts, the first work he did for Citadel.

So they were later not re-released (from Citadel) with a slot base instead of the cast-on base?
