Battle Games in Middle Earth
« on: July 06, 2012, 03:08:10 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with this set of magazines? Just looking for advice at the moment
I've been thinking about possibly trying to collect this series but is it worthwhile?
I've heard the articles are MUCH better than White Dwarf's article on LOTR
But there ARE 91 issues....
I've checked Ebay and without the figures they can range from 1 -3 pounds each

Thanks in advance
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

I know the rules.
I was wondering about the painting/terrain article mostly.

I remember buying a few mags but mainly becasue of the miniatures. I can't really say what the quality was like - except I had the feeling it was aimed mostly at beginners of the hobby.

I have the entire series of magazines and the terrain tutorials are quite good especially the later editions as they seem to progress from easy to expert class. To sum some articles, Dunland village, black gate, pelonnor fields, mordor modular tiles, hobbit holes...

Quite loved them some years ago but now I rarely look into them except for stats on miniatures as I haven't found a cheap rulebook yet!

They are worth getting. I have the entire series too, but as Belgian said, the later editions are better, because the terrain tutorials are more detailed and look much better. I don't know if I would have collected this series if I had to buy every single magazine, but I managed to buy the complete series of magazines plus all of the plastic and metal figures for only €40. Lucky me.  :D

I found most of the issues scanned online but some are missing...
Haven't downloaded them yet tho so quality is unknown.
If I could buy the lot, minus the figures, I would consider that but most ebay listings are selling piecemeal

If I list the missing ones, could one of you fine folk possibly scan and email them to me?

Not to rain on your parade but are there copyright issues?

Gracias,

As others have said, they were aimed at beginners and carrying those beginners through to expert.

Issues after around 12 or 15 are very good, painting guides use the GW paints and the scenery articles are pretty awesome. A lot of the scenery articles are very inspiring and easy to follow.
