Hello to all
« on: July 07, 2012, 09:11:39 PM »
Hello from sleepy Suffolk !
I've been lurking for a couple of years now and thought it high time I joined !
I'm a 46 year old lapsed gamer, painter, converter and modeller, well in 28mm anyway, went over to 54mm some years ago (god knows why !) and have been gradually building up a collection of English Civil War amongst other things.
However, the Perrys WOR plastics are calling.........................................

Welcome to LAF; your theme tune is cheesy, but memorable.

Ahhh that bought back some very happy memories, rushing home from school to watch Flashing Blade and then recreating the sword fights in the playground the following day.

Welcome, good to have another Suffolk resident here, and a veteran as well. Whereabouts are you btw?
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious!!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
@ SteveF - thanks for the link, next to the Double Deckers that has got to be one of the most memorable theme tunes of my youth.
Having watched the clip I'm resisting the urge to have a unit of black clad figures in Morions, just struggling to accept black buff coats !
@ Trooper- I live in Ipswich, whereabouts are you ? I used to know a Scottish biker called Trooper who was a gamer and about your age, surely it couldnt be...........
@ Captain Blood-I am still resisting.....so far .
I had quite a big Foundry WOR army a few years ago and sold it when I ran out of opponents.
To start again would be tough !

No not me, "Trooper" was my old Call of Duty name. I'm in Fram just up the road from you then. I think I'm the only wargamer in the village, and the surrounding area for that matter.  :(

@ Trooper- Lucky boy ! Framlingham is lovely, not everyone has a 12th century castle on their doorstep !
Surely you cant be the only wargamer in the village ?
Do you game solo  ? I've done plenty of that in my time,it has its own rewards and frustrations.

It is a great place that's true, but I think I am the only wargamer, there is some Warhammer and 40K going on but you have to be 16 and under to qualify, and my days of GW playing are long over. So yeah, it's mostly solo, which is ok, but you can't beat the interaction with another player. The nearest wargames club is in Bury, which is a bit of a schlepp, and I haven't found any historical gaming going on in Ipswich.  I was interested in you saying about 54mm, I have built up a collection for playing WWII in 54mm as well as in 1/72, but otherwise I am a dyed in the wool 28mm guy, ACW, Back of Beyond and Colonial.

54 mm is a great skirmish scale,in a moment of utter madness I decided a few years ago to totally ditch 28 and 20mm and go 54 mm.
I've done a fair few ECW/Witchhunter,ww2,ww1,FIW and a few zombies but frankly its hard work and LOTS of conversions are needed
for what I want,so a move back to 28 is on the cards I think.
