Old West Scenarios
« on: October 11, 2006, 01:10:52 PM »
What sort of Old West scenarios do people prefer to play? I am trying to encourage more people in my club to play and I want to know what are the most popular types of scenarios? I have a game on Saturday with some new players.

Thanks,
TT.

To get people used to the rules the "shootout at high noon" is never wrong, although it's a bit uninspired.
"I'd like to send this letter to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aeromail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?"
"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

A bank robbery is a nice start.  Pretty much everyone can "get" the motivation of each side (ie. Outlaws and Sheriff's Posse) without the need for long explanations.

Start the action as the Outlaws leave the bank, bags of cash in-hand!

One of my favorites is "Hangover Saturday." Two rival gangs find out they've spent Friday night boozing it up in the same town. So on Saturday morning, they have to stagger around, find their guns and friends (which are scattered around the board), and drive off the other side. All with a splitting headache!

How about outlaws rescuing a gang member from the jail or even the hangman's noose (you might need to build a nice balsa wood gallows!)

Magnificent seven scenario - gunfighters taking on a gang of bandits.

Or even an indian raid on a homestead or town with cavalry patrols etc.  :)

The Golden Mule is our favorite.  Take one skittish mule (bolts at the sound of gunfire), load it up w/ bags of gold from where ever (mine, bank, Union payroll), set him in the middle of your terrain, and set your gangs at 'em! First one off their table edge w/ said mule and/or gold wins.

Yes, you can shoot the mule. Now drag a hundred pounds of gold off that table!!
