New Perry Italian Medievals
« on: July 20, 2012, 12:31:58 AM »
Now up on the Perry website is the next batch of July releases : Italian medievals. The carrocio is available as a full set, though you can buy the components separately (figures/carrocio/oxen team).

Bravo yet again to the Perry's  8) 8) 8) 8) 8).

I can see these miniatures developing into a rather interesting new project.

BTW, they would also be great to use as Burgundians (Swiss Wars) sans Corrocio as most of Charles the Bolds mercenaries were Italian.

There are a few painters I would like to see have a go freehand at those drapes on the carrocio

I'm very much of a mind to do a Fornovo or Ravenna demo game now. This would include a Carraccio whether there was one present or not!!

In other words, count me in!!

I will be getting them to enhance my Burgundians.

These are just too good, I need to get some pronto!

Could you use them somewhere in the early italian wars for some skirmishing?
What factions/city states would be apropriate?

How early are you thinking of? These are mostly usefull for the 1550's onwards up to about 1515- ish.

Not just for skirmishing, though the Sword and Shiled men did just that at Fornovo.

They would be appropriate for pretty much any Italian Ciry state.

Sorry, but the use of the Carroccio declines in the mid 14th century...
So, no Carroccio at Fornovo or Ravenna... ::)
A real good piece, but historically wrong (as they present is for the 1450-1500 period... :o)
After 14th century, the Carroccio was only used for ceremonies and for celebrating anniversaries (Legnano for example) and during the Palio (Siena, Firenze etc...).

Yes, they're metal and they're meant to be mounted on the plastic horses from the mounted men at arms set, which can be purchased separately from the riders now.

Very true.

But the Perry model still looks too good for us to be bothered by such trifles as reality  :D

Indeed, you do what you want...But as it can be purchased separately, it could be used for the early 14th century, with appropriate figures... ;)

I was thinking perhaps War of the League of Cambrai? At least as a starting point.
