The Penanggalan or `Hantu Penanggal` is a peculiar variation of the vampire myth that apparently began in the Malay Peninsula. See also the Manananggal,
oooo, more ideas. My grandfather (or lolo in tagolog...) swears he ran afoul of one of these creatures when he was a younger man in manila...this of course is in conjunction of his wealth of war stories from being in the Bataan death march, to working for the Japanese, and escaping into the mountains with his freedom fighter brothers...
I'll have to make one of these myself...my brother tape recorded his war stories and many tall tales he had of mythical creatures...so it would be fun to go from his descriptions.
There is also the other pinoy vampire, that looks like an old woman, but at night, she is just a flying torso! The legs and lower body stay hidden so it can return to them in the daytime and blend in with normal humans. In fact the only way to kill one, is to find the lower body, and destroy it. Also, you can tell them in their "human" disguise, because the feet are backward!
Maybe I'll venture into sculpting this with green stuff....
