Gladiator Project- New Gladiators (page 3)
« on: August 15, 2012, 07:40:20 PM »
I couldn't find an earlier post by me on this project which is odd but maybe I didn't make one :)
The Gladiators for this were pushed to the front of the queue by this year's LPL which always ruins my schedules. But, no matter, we're back where we should be again and with the miniatures already done, so there's a bonus!

Anyway, I started on the arena a while ago and today I made the actual structures for it. There'll be more details once I write them up and the main building might get a Romanesque roof too, I'm undecided at the moment.

here it is so far:

Those in the know will recognise the basic layout of an arena for Red Sand Blue Sky by Two Hour Wargames which is my chosen rule set for gladiators.

The project and pics of the gladiators and animals etc is here:

Lovely to see this rolling again, it was searching for arena ideas that led me to your site in the first place! I do like the idea of not having a big empty wall around your arena, it'll set it out from the crowd.
Have you thought about Red Sand Black Moon so some of your fantasy figures can get in on the action?

EDIT - where did you get your panther from? The only big cats I can ever seem to find are reaper lions.

It's from Northstar.

I'm sure the arena will see more action than just gladiators at some point.

Thanks for sharing your take on this topic here. It's a great start, not the least for a good choice of rules. :D
Looking forward to how this progresses (and knowing your other projects, it will efficiently).

I've painted the buildings.

I'm going to make a roof section for the main building and add some patchy grass to the edges of the tiled area and then everything should be pretty much finished.

All done.

I added a roof to the main building to keep it in line with my original sketches.

And added some static grass to the board.

Thanks James :)
I use my iPad, one of the reasons I got it was to be able to draw stuff again. It's very easy to use. The Arena sketch was done in 53 a Microsoft planning/ideas app but usually I use a note taking app called Bamboo Paper. It's just for idea scribbles really, the stylus doesn't let you be too precise so you have to allow yourself to be a bit 'loose' (couldn't say that on Frothers :) )
I have some RPG and games ideas stuff on my deviantart page here:
