This is a scarecrow I painted for a Halloween diorama that I am planning to do...  I had a really hard time picking the colours for this one... not sure the final work is exactly what I wanted. In any case I am happy. I was experimenting with the rusty scythe, what do you think?

The paint job looks fantastic.

I'm not sure about the rust, though. It seems speckled and not rusted. I would expect the rust would be along the blade edge or cover all of it. I could be wrong so take the critique with a grain of salt.  :)

I went to the woodshed and checked the rusty scythe I keep on hand for emergencies.

That looks pretty dead on to me.

Yep a splendid paint job. The rust works fine for me.

I think everything is beautifull except the scythe. This doesn't look like rust to me, this looks like he has just scythed a field of tomatoes.

thats very nice!  I like the rust too, but I think the front is nicer than the back.  I think the reason I don't like the back is the big dots of solid colour.  Maybe the pattern are a bit too regular?

Hey All,

Thanks for the great feedback on this! The rust was done starting with red-brown from IWM paints, and then adding Dun yellow from IWM for two highlights. Then I took some Red from IWM and added Dun to it to make it brighter for two highlights.

The blotches are actually supposed to represent where the rust as turned into blue and white patches. Unfortunately the mixes were too watery, and I left too much on there, so they turned out blotchy. I am planning to fix that shortly.

As for the picture link, it should work, but perhaps my Web server was down for a bit. Here is a link to my site where it should be:

Thanks again,
n.
