Hello, from Reading, Berks - please be gentle with me!
« on: 02 September 2012, 09:34:27 PM »
I have been unoffically following the forum for quite a while and thought it about time that I formally join.

My main interest here is 28mm VSF, after being tempted by some Ironclad figures at a show recently, but I dabble in many different periods and scales.

I live in Reading, Berkshire, but due to my work/life balance being a complete disaster I never find the time to get any gaming in, except the odd solo game.

But, as you only get out of life what you out in, I am trying to re address the balance and make up for all those wasted years.

Are there any VSF gamers near by?

Regards
Blodwin

Welcome aboard Blodwin! There´s a lot of VSF gamers on LAF, I hope you can find some VSFfan fellow near you home. BTW... Solo can be more fun if you make some Battrep to show and comment! Try it someday and you will see what I´m talking about!

Thanks for the welcome.

I agree, solo games have so much to offer - but what I have missed over the years is the general chat and comradeship.  No matter what mechanisum you use to generate your opponents moves etc - it is difficult to replicate the sheer stupidity and the " oh my God I never saw that coming" moments.

Thanks for the replies.

I do get to the Wargames Association of Reading club once in a blue moon, but only then for a fleeting visit. Never long enough to actually have a game. :'(

With my son now at University and the need for Dads taxi service no longer required, and with the wife's permission, of course -  the weekends are now mine again!! 8)

I have just received my order for clear Acrylic rods - so this weekend I can get to work on my flight stands and get my troops airborne. :D

I scratch built some skiffs / rafts ( unsure what you call them) for my Sanwar troops - a mixture of gas filled ballons and sails - with rockets tubes mounted at the front. ;D

I needed some thing for the Sanwar to even up the odds when they face Queen Victoria's lads

When I get them airbourne I will get some pictures uploaded.

Howdy.  I talk to myself when I play solo (hmmmm...even do that when there are other players) and sometimes surprise myself with a brilliant, unexpected move.  Well...now the doctor has started me on some new medication......Anyway, welcome aboard and let's hear from you again.

Doctor Pete hello

Talking to yourself in solo games is compulsory – my wife has given up checking to see if I’m ok following my cries of “ unhand me you bounder” or “take that you rotter”.

My medication currently is a nice single malt whisky - but I have found that the side effects are troubling -  as well has having a bad head in the morning the figures you painted the night before look even worse that you feel.

Are there any other VSF solo gamers out there - if so what rules / amendments to rules are you using?
