Achilles MERCS Minis projects - Keizai Waza
« on: September 03, 2012, 09:38:52 PM »
So, with all of the other stuff I've had on the go, I've finally gotten my long suffering Keizai Waza painted. As they aren't my primary team (more done for the sake of completeness and as loaners) they are painted to a neat tabletop standard. It has nothing to do with the fact that I've just put in an order for ISS and Texico, the latter of which I'm particularly excited to paint.

The theme of course is a post-blast team in NBR suits, beaten and coated in ashes from a recent nuclear intervention. The bright clothing contrasting with the armour and the green lenses give it some 'pop'.

So here they are, after a long hiatus! I'm particularly happy with the bases, muted enough with the rusting columns to give the impression of a decaying post-nuclear environment... but different enough from the figs that they still stand out.

All in all not bad for a three hour paint scheme!

Leader

Demo

Pathfinder

Heavy Hybrid

Thanks Den! I'm stoked to paint the ISS and Texico figs I've got on the way. Got ideas for them!

They look great, although I'd give the orange another pass - the black undercoat still shows through.

Can't wait to see what you do with the new factions!  ;)

Thanks fellas! Not sure the orange needs another coat (lighting maybe?), but I'm just glad to have these knocked out so I can focus on other things!

They look absolutely fine to me, well done! In many ways, from the look of it, MERCS seems to me as a more promising alternative to Infinity (which I've not played yet). Fixed team sizes, small boards, to name but two such aspects. However, I'm not completely sold on the miniatures, at least not on any available faction. Seeing yours, I'll probably give them another look…
Btw, what colour(s) did you use for the lenses? Quite effective.

Oh, I cheated. I've simply painted them white, given them a wash with green Ink, highlighted the edges with a Mint Green Vallejo (can't recall the number) and then hit them with Gloss after they were varnished. :)

I'm really liking MERCS for it's Points Free and easy to pick up format. Also, the 2x3' board size has let me build a lot of fun 'set pieces' to use in the game.

Don't know if you've seen the rest of the figs, but here are my five other teams for reference. As I said, I've got the other two new ones (ISS and Texico) on their way as well.

The yellow CCC team is probably the ones I spent the most time on as they are my favorites in the range (and the original figs!) They make great AE Bounty fireteams and just plain old Sci Fi troopers for other games as well. :)

The style reminds me a lot of Infinityx, which is a good thing! The painting is top-notch, something I would expect to see as promo images on a manufacturer's webshop.

Love the paintjobs.  I like your other teams - the team in the OP suffers from one of my personal pet peeves - overly extreme bases. :D  I know it's a matter of personal preference, but I never like when a large, overly ornate base distracts from a gaming figure.

Paint jobs are top notch.  I like the white robotic team.  Looks awesome!

Totally agree about the huge bases. This team's theme is that they're actually ARMED (Team Leader has it on his back) with a Mini-Nuke (think Fallout/Starship Troopers) and employ them quite casually in small scale conflicts... so I wasn't going to get a better excuse to get these out of my base box than that!

Like I said, I'm mostly a collector at heart, so I wanted to get these guys done for sake of completeness. The 'White Robots' are the Neo-Soviet faction in this universe, so I'm excited they're doing more with them. I went with a 'Soyuz Rocket' look to the armour, with old style OD Green fatigues underneath.

Glad you guys enjoyed them! There will be a western and aquatic themed teams coming in sometime this week. I'll post them too!
