Thanks all, those are some great ideas.

I didnt want to go for something as cliche as an upside down cross.  OTOH, since the steeple's cross isn't far off the horizontal mid-point, it may not be too noticable.

I had a thought last night....how about you clip off the headstone and glue this model to the roof so it's coming around the cross?

That'd look pretty bloody brill, IMO

In "The Haunter of The Dark" Lovecraft mentions this about the old church that had been taken over by The Starry Wisdom Sect: "Turning away from the windows, Blake noticed that the cobwebbed cross above the altar was not of the ordinary kind, but resembled the primordial ankh or crux ansata of shadowy Egypt.".

And put a pin in it so you can switch out different icons.
"This is no time for ease and comfort. It is the time to dare and endure."

Certainly gruesome, I like the different options.
I guess you could go either way.  I find that a little less is more sinister.  Innsmouth never jumped out at me as being all that diferent from a regular town on the outside.  You look in the windows however, than you've got a different story!

Maybe you can find some inspiration in the Cathedrae Noctis...

I like that idea. The ankh would be subtle and ambiguous, but still give the impression of something darker.

In the movie "Dagon" was there a Church of Dagon with an odd-looking symbol, I can't recall excatly what it looked like.
