Werewolf: The Beast Among Us
« on: 14 October 2012, 03:23:05 PM »
Picked this up in Walmart during the week and watched it yesterday.  Verdict - not bad at all.  I guess it was pretty low budget because it went straight to DVD but I enjoyed it.  It has liberal amounts of CGI but not too much and has a Steampunky, VSF, Gothic Horror feel that works.  The story line has a few twists and turns that keep things interesting up to the end.  Plenty of gore (in the unrated version anyway).

Lots of interesting ideas for CiC and EOTD scenarios.

Described indeed as 'steampunk'  (goggles/flamethrower...) but with details reminiscent of 'Van Helsing'

Can be inspirational for earlier 'Xpunk' adventures.

Not a bad film, I saw it on Netflix. Some neat looking scenes and would be very playable as a CiC scenario.

But exactly how?

A twisted version of 'The Little Red Riding Hood', then?

As in the recent 'Snow White' neither the heroine nor the hunter abide to traditional conventions:

May I underline how well werewolves and tricornes fit together :D ?
Average the date of:

with that of:

and you fall right during the F&IW (the one corresponding to the WAS, precisely), so 'interesting' minis can be added to the mix (see also there and even there).

Alternatively the werewolf can be an innocent girl victim of a curse who normally looks rather like:

(turning into a she-wolf rather than to a white doe

and the (male) hero would have to break the curse without hurting her? SLAP Miniatures offers interesting werewolves and female ones are in the pipeline.

Speaking of the Little Red Riding Hood, am I alone to see an allusion to her in this trailer:

Abraham Lincoln Vs Zombies was OK too.  This one was on Netflix.  Ab Lincoln, two whores, a bunch of secret service agents and a young Teddy Roosevelt - now there's an idea for a faction!!

Saw it there, gave it a pass, then you blokes spoke up...  ::)

Okay, I'll give it a try.

Likewise Abe vs., which leads me to think I best keep expectations low.  ;)

A wise move, plan of being disapointed - then things can only get better.

Just started each, but Abe, on first impression, was dreadful, so no rising expectation there.  lol However, even dreadful can be watchable, so I will finish, eventually.

Werewolf, in spite a bit too much telegraphing, seems to start rather well. Marked 'pleasantly surprised.'

Now, has anyone released the two-legged horse yet?

I just got this movie after hearing about it on this forum (mind you I'm new to this section of LAF). I found it a fun flick to watch. I agree it has some interesting ideas in it to duplicate it on the table top. Even the scenery looked interesting. Just saying ;)

mildly amusing, nice sets, gore and costumes but the plot and direction and well general story were.. well lacking.

They try to give you the "oh who is the werewolf" scenario and then pretty much tell you who it is in the first half of the film, wasting time setting up this whole catch the wolf scene and then waste it on some poachers.

Although the bit which I found most odd was how a werewolf bite turns the victims into what I can only describe as vampires?
