The Kitbash Boys
« on: October 16, 2012, 06:27:49 PM »
Generic Sci Fi troopers made with Kromlech, MaxMini, Mantic Games, Defiance Games, Pig Iron, Heresy,  Infinity, StarShip Troopers, and  MERCS bitz. I think they turned out OK. Now if I could paint like dwartist…

Well, when you feel SO frustrated you just can't stand looking at them ANY longer, you can always ship them to me, mate.

I'd be thrilled.

Lovely work as always, Dentatus! I really enjoy how the brushwork ties the models together in spite of their differing pieces of kit. They definitely have the look of hardened and worn mercs to me.

I recognize the Pig Iron heavy infantry head, but the identity of the others are eluding me. Also....

Are the legs on this guy from a plastic SST trooper?

To each his own, but I don't really understand the disdain for the Defiance Games figures. While they are not the best on the market, neither are they the worst. And the fact that they come with a TON of extra bits makes them great conversion fodder, as you demonstrate so well here.

Thanks.

PI helmet - DG torso, arms and weapon - SST bitz for shoulder pads - MERCS (FCC) legs and backpack. (not pictured)

I picked up a bag of arms from Wargames Factory WW II Americans off eBay and now there's a sniper sitting on the painting desk. Pix when colored.

@ Hrothgar - my disdain for the Defiance stuff is that to date it's not very good. I don't think the detail is there, the proportions don't seem right and generally I've seen better plastic models from the 80's. The bugs are better and maybe usable. I am sure they will get better as the early WF stuff was shockingly poor and they are much better these days. Of course, they have new owners too so not sure if that is the factor. I am all for cheap toys and kitbashing, just the stuff they haqve released, for me, isn't good enough to buy.

btw - those Maximini heads are nice aren't they? I'm looking for a way to use some of mine. Have a look at Mad Robot's new beret heads as well - they're really nice.
