Old and new ways of killing in the fifteenth century
« on: October 17, 2012, 08:24:34 PM »
In short, the longbow and field artillery. Have had it in mind for some time to represent the carnage of an arrow storm for my WotR collection. I finally got round to doing it. I guess in reality they can just be used as casualty markers to be left in the wake of advancing battles. These have served as an interesting distraction from the large bodies of troops painted and yet to paint. I think it a little macabre to call if a fun distraction.

Painted alongside the carnage is the new of the title. Four field pieces for the later engagements, painted in liveries that can easily double up. Inspired by Capt B's rusty pieces, I did grime them up a bit with a bit of crevasse oxidization. Ah well. Back to the big bodies of troops at the weekend. Think it will be Hungerford's mob next as I haven't done red and green together yet. Cheers.

Very nice. Thats some massive table coverage already, without the main troops.

Very nice... and nice idea about the arrow bases, there are many things they could be used for, depending on the rule set being used; 'points of shock' in Dux Brit for example.

 ;)

Ooh that is good, very characterful. As Arlequin says they could be used for a wide variety of game markers.

To be honest I have not gamed with these yet so have not decided upon a rule set, but here are the culprits.

My god, will you look at that mob! :o Now all you need it the baggage, camps, bill-men, men-at-arms, foot and mounted, pikemen, crossbow men, pickers, handguners, camp followers, and some leadership for that mob.

I like a guy who doesn't do things by halves...   :o

lol

To be honest, the 'massed' pic is how I'd expect them to look at 1:1... about 10-12 deep.

If I was facing that lot I'd already be miles in the opposite direction, legging it  :o- a truly awesome representation of medieval firepower!

How bloody many?!!!  :o

I simply had to save those pics for the sheer scale of numbers. Nice work on the arrow storm aftermath. Might borrow that idea albeit on a much smaller scale. I've got a GW Bretonnian (back when the models were just HYW by any other name) taking an arrow in the chest and he'd be perfect for that.
