New project. 55 days on mars.
« on: October 29, 2012, 08:36:14 PM »
Greetings everyone.

I'm starting a new VSF project based around a boxer like rebellion on Mars, forcing the colonial force to join together to survive.

I have the first group of martians on the painting desk but i have one question. Does anyone recommended a good set of rules to use.

Thanks for your time.
gimzod.

Personally I use the 'Soldiers Companion' for 1889 with lots of changes.

Or you could try this new (free) set from Spartan 'Dystopian Legions': http://www.spartangames.co.uk/resources/downloads

I assume this is skirmish or small battle (multiple platoons or a single reinforced company) sized games?

Gracias,

Glenn

Have a look at G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T..  We use it with the Soldier's Companion OOB's.

Maybe/Maybe Not - Valor & Steel & Flesh.

Character and Unit Based; characters are 1:1; Units (not necessarily 1:1 figure:soldier ratio) - Infantry one Leader/9 Rankers (+/-,) or Cavalry ditto, "Vehicles" and crew, or "Gun" and crew.  Some units will not have Leaders.  Units can be squads, platoons, or companies based on what you envision the scale of the battle being fought.  Senior Commander increase the Chain of Command.  Units have two traits Mettle - Civilian, Raw, Experienced, Veteran and Pluck - Reluctant, Confident, Reliable, and Enthusiastic.  Vehicles have Reliability (3 non-linear levels) and Protection (6 non-linear levels.)

Commands consist of Commander and 2-3 (or up to 6) units.

Characters can be part of a unit or independent.

Gracias,

Glenn

You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

On Matakishi's Tea House website, (www.matakishi.org) he's got a set of rules called "The Natives Are Restless Tonight". Two versions, ideally suited for playing asymmetrical colonial dust-ups like Rourke's Drift or the Legation Quarter.

And, for good measure, FREE.

I'm also thinking about a game of that sort. I'd need buckets more 28mm Martians than I currently have, sadly.

BTW, one of the first issues of "Transactions of the Royal Martian Geographical Society" had an article on the legation quarter of Syrtis Major.  Might come in handy...

We used to run the "55 Minutes in Peking" game from Staines Wargame Club for the Siege of the Legations.  Soldier's Companion would work just as well.
