Lost world clans
« on: October 21, 2006, 10:55:27 PM »
I have not seen anything about lost worlds. No fur clad minis ?

I have got a cave war project ongoing. I painted only one clan and a half yet.

The Copplestones :

and the Fenrylls

And I have some Pulp, Eureka and Shadoforge clans to paint. (as usual more unpainted minis than painted).

See also http://psilete.free.fr/?/Aventure/Le-mythe-de-la-caverne

I have also put here a short summary of some movies. It's in french but the photos speak by themselves !

Cool minis, I like the bears. I see a lot of these movies involve half naked girls - cool. What rules do you use? Or are your minis for display purposes?

TT.

The Hammer studios movies were much about half naked girls saved from pterosaurs by heavily bearded grunting men  :P But they are still worth watching ! I am sure they are the primary source of inspiration for Mark Copplestone's figures.

As for the rules, I don't know yet. I will certainly use a simplified and streamlined version Lord of the Rings/LotOW.

My goal is to set up a participative game. Participants would first choose a clan, each one having strengths and weaknesses. I take from Rosny Aine (excellent book Quest for Fire and sequels) that there were a great variety of coexisting clans with a diversity of shapes and sizes, which allows the use of every manufacturer's models on the same table. There could be different types of Cromagons, Neanderthals, Australopithecans, Amazons, even a group of half intelligent baboons, and possibly abominable snowmen types !

Then a goal would be randomly chosen for each clan : hunting, rapt women or children, steal a fire source, take control of a mammoth dead body or a fruit area, or a cavern. Wild animals would be added for variety, and their moves determined randomly (or maybe moved by kids if some players come with their children).

Communication regarding the game (including alliances and war plans) would be limited to grunts, gestures and a limited lexicon of words taken from the Hammer films (Akeeta = this way ; Nahot = dead, ...). Of course today language would be allowed for discussing the rules or talking to the game master !

In fact I used them once in a dinosaur hunt using the Saurian Safari rules.

Miss Clanton, a member of the expedition exploring the dinosaurs' valley, had mysteriously disapeared during the night and the expedition sent to the rescue found here captive of a cavemen clan.

I think LOTR of LOTW would work in well with this type of game. Good luck, it sounds like fun.

Third prehistoric clan. These ones are a little less evolved. They are from Eureka.

(Sorry : the pictures are a bit blurred)

I wish they had some females. They will have to rapt them from other clans

Still have at least 5 other manufacturer's clans to paint...

http://www.pulpfigures.com/cat.php?range=Lost%20Tribes%20and%20Lost%20Worlds&catalog=PLT&custID=1959321381163550545

also the Jeff valent ones

and for a bit of fantasy - Trogs

I put together some lists on the Cave_wars site for a bastardisation of Necromunda but you could easily convert them to LOTR :D

Yes, I have got the Pulp Neanderthalian of course, unpainted yet. I have also some Shadowforge girls, Amazon cavemen, and should receive soon (I hope) both HLBS clans. Plan to get the Steve Barber and Jeff Valent too (though the Jeff Valent range is still expanding, I think).

I also got some baboons from Obelisk at Crisis, and they should make a clan. In Quest for Fire (the best prehistoric pulp book ever imho) there is a clan of "blue men" who turn out to be gorillas.

I also got also some abominable snowmen from Pulp. Since they are a very ancient species of wise big men (see the Hammer studios film) they were already around at prehistoric times

Painted my first 10 Pulp Neanderthalians. These are wonderful minis ! The next ten should not be long.
