Battlefield Evolution: World at War

This may be of interest to WW2 and budding games designers (Open Content licence, deatils below):

(On Sale: April 2008) Using the latest generation of the fast-playing Battlefield Evolution rules, this is the action-packed rulebook that brings World War II to your tabletop.

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/miniature/detail.php?qsID=1591&qsSeries=Battlefield%20Evo

Battlefield Evolution: World at War is a portal into World War II, providing everything you need to stage small firefights in far flung villages, or massive confrontations involving massed infantry, armour and air units, as the struggle for territory reaches a fever pitch.

The main rulebook covers Late War armies in the European theatre, with future expansions introducing new campaigns and different armies. In this mighty hardback, you will find army lists for;

British Army Infantry
British Army Paratroopers
British Army Commandos
German Wehrmacht Grenadiers and Panzergrenadiers
German Waffen-SS
German Fallschirmjäger
Soviet Infantry and Motor Rifles
Soviet Tank Desant
United States Infantry and Armoured Infantry
United States Paratroopers

Battlefield Evolution: World at War is designed for 20-28mm miniatures, and 1/72 scale models. The rulebook includes complete army lists, advanced rules, scenarios and a unique Engagements system allowing you to create your own missions.

This game is fully compatible with the rest of the Battlefield Evolution line, and hobbyists and publishers alike will have a chance to produce their own material for the game, through the introduction of an Open Content licence. This basically means that anyone is free to publish material for the system, be it supplements for existng books or whole new games, and for them to be 100% compatible/official - they can be marketed as Battlefield Evolution products and will have the Battlefield Evolution logo to demonstrate this. We even toyed with the idea of allowing this to be done with miniatures as well.

TT.

I had thoiught about these for my Quar but Josh and the lads are developing their own rules which look much more fun  . Might have a look for Moderns etc as I liked the original SST rules. Are they similar?

Battlefiled Evolution was based on SST and World at War is the 2nd edition of Battlefiled Evolution.
It is basically the same game with some correctiones and improvmnets.
The core of the WaW book are the rules and the WW II army lists which I wrote.

The design approach of World at War was not to create a historically-accurate, painstakingly-researched, super-detailed simulation of World War II infantry action. The goal was a game that carries a lot of the spirit of the successful Starship Troopers and Battlefield Evolution games with their dedi-cated fan community into WW II tabletop gaming. To have a fun, fast, action packed game that is not bogged down by endless charts, easy to learn but still have enough grit to keep you playing for months and even years to come.
That said it is obvious that the core of the rules is the Battlefield Evolution system. The challenge was now to adjust the system enough to get a WW 2 “feel” and not to change too much.

Basically you can play a game with 2-4 squads, some support choices as Snipers, HMGs etc plus 1-3 tanks in 2-3 h.

The OCL is still a bit open to, you can find more here:

cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - https://www.adpublishing.de
