Red Martians of the Cities (updated 1-12-13)
« on: 17 December 2012, 04:48:56 AM »
And, we start on yet another unit of my VSF forces.  THe city-dwelling Red Martians, left from their defeat by the cephalopods, and now trying to regain their place as top predator on Mars.

Unfortunately, one of them got captured.  Idea shamelessly stolen from Froggy.

No shame in that stealing.  Well done - are there better pictures?

I'll see what I can do - I haven't been posting recently because my camera died - and I haven't mastered my wife's yet.

And yeah, I thought that most of the old wyches were perfect martians, and I am mixing them freely with Bronze Age Reds...I just clip off most of the spikes, and we're good to go.

I'm about to give some Red Martians a go myself. May I ask what recipe you used for the skin?

I mixed my own red, just this side of pink, and I put that down, wash it with a thinned out indian red ink, and rehighlight with original color.  Fairly simple, but I am fairly lazy about such things - my painting doesn't hold up at 6", but it looks damned good at 24".

How fortuitous! I recently found an unopened box of five of the folk in a thrift store; $4US didn't seem problematic at the time, and now just golden!  ;)

Perfect as 'a civilization clawing it's way back from savagery'. Obviously, not TOO far, yet.  lol

With your recent posts, you're certainly making up, and mastery will only come with practice, practice, practice...  :D

And few more of the Reds.  I have 8 or so more, and then I need to finish a couple of skiffs for them to ride in.

Huh.  I just noticed I forgot to paint one of their eyes.  Geez, that's embarrassing.

And to add to the forces, some Dark Eldar vehicles converted over.  I purchased one of the new ones, which I have yet to finish painting, and it had enough alternate sails I was able to make the old ones look a little more like them with a few beads and a bit of finagling.

This is the finished Red Martian force for a game I am testing this coming weekend, and if it works well, taking to a convention in May.
