Third scratchbuild building (grocery store)
« on: March 26, 2008, 08:03:55 PM »
This is the most recent building I have done. It is a 2 story with the shop downstairs, and an appartment upstairs. There is exterior stairs leading to the appartment. Here you are....comments appreciated.

Great stuff. Do you use hardboard for the buildings?

thank you for the replies. My buildings are made of 2mm cardboard covered with strips of wood (i don't recall the name of the wood, but it is the sort used for modelboats). The bases are also made the same way. The roofs are 1mm cardbord covered with individual cardboard shingles or tar paper (made from a napkin soaked with diluted PVA glue)

Great building. I especially like the backyard and the outside stairs. There is just one thing you could add in my opinion what about some furniture for the interior of the rooms?

actually I think the wood is called obechi or something like that. I don't want to create furniture, since it will only make it complicated when moving figures inside the buildings. Besides there are companies manufacturing furnitures in both white metal and resin, so if I at some point desides to add furniture I will probably just buy it, and paint it.

all the doors on my buildings are hinged, and do open except for the doors to the prison cells in the sheriff's office and the door to the outhouse on the grocery store (the roof can be liftet off though). Below is a better view of the hinges on the Dry goods store' main entrance.

The hinges are made of small brass tubes and brass wire

NOOO, please don't. That was not my intention. It's just that I have seen so many nicely painted buildings and figures in this forum, that I felt I had to contribute myself.

BTW. Thanks for all the nice comments

They are awesome. :D

I need to fix up my Mexican buildings as they've taken some battle damage so I think I will "borrow" some of your ideas.
