First game of S.A. - a thing with wings (very pic heavy)
« on: December 30, 2012, 07:12:53 PM »
A few weeks before Christmas, a mail dropped into my mail from Derek who kindly offered a cup of tea and a game or two.  Given it was a hard hard year for me I kindly took his offer and met him and David for a game.

Hanging head in shame, I had not really heard of the game (and mixed it up with CiC :o at one point) but rolled a few dice in a 1 monster vs. lunch human scenario that started with a report of a strange 'thing' in the local ruined church:

(Note the quality of the building here - green me? Never - well a little)

Anyway - in true tradition of hiding scouting the enemy, some folk decided to take care and hide around the other side

forgetting things with wings could fly over buildings:

leading to the seasonal cry - It's behind you

while others (namely myself) thought a longer range for combat was better:

(and before its mentioned by the others - yes I know I shot the wrong target but I was scared)...

Not fully knowing the rules (but still having a great time) some folk ran away rather than face the beast:

(great painting of figures here - green me[/color] - never :-* )

Folk began to fall 'neath the talons / beak and frightful smell of the beast

or decided to flee

(honestly - would you turn your back on that?)

but soon, the beast decided lunch for the kids was a better option and off it flew / hopped down the board:

as some headed home for evening prayer

to no avail (remember the wings?)

but at the end - the remaining live/sane folk won out

just before it escaped...

A great game was had by all - and I am sure the others will chip in to claim the glory  lol

It was a great game, I was pleasantly surprised at how dynamic S.A is even with only one beast on the board. The psychology rules add lots of flavour!

Your pictures came out perfectly!

If only I'd managed to carry that agent off to feed the young I'd have claimed a moral monster victory even after getting shot to bits (those .45 pistols pack a punch in the end, or was it all the sixes Derek magically started rolling? lol)

A special note must go to point out that if not for the Lead Adventure Forum I'd not have met (at current count) up with the three fine members on here I call friends now. Huzzah!

The giant turkey monster looks really really good, wings are painted lovely.

Cracking AAR too.

The sickle in the fruitful field;
The sword he sung a song of death,
But could not make the sickle yield."

Nice AAR, great minis and it seems that you had great fun.

Welcome to the Cult!

(and it seems we have had very similar ideas regarding that ruins...)

Thanks for the writeup Andrew; your pictures are great and I love the sepia tint.

I'm sure we got a lot of the rules wrong after my rushed read-through, but the game itself was great.  It played really smoothly, and I can see the scope for campaign play (with a reserve of spare characters :o in true Lovecraftian style).

David, you neglect to mention that my team spent the first half of the game running away or gibbering on the ground while the monster dined on the rest of the characters, so a couple of decent dice rolls at the end of the game were a bit of a relief ;D

Mason, your Krappenfort ruins were my inspiration for those Pegasus buildings, so thanks for that.

I'm sure the Lincolnshire chapter of LAF will go from strength to strength in 2013!

Yes I may have forgot about all the gibbering wrecks I created at the start. I particularly liked the agent who went so mad with fear as to go berserk and rush in on the beast to poke its eyes out! A questionable response to a giant turkey monster!

Roll on the good times for the Lead Adventure Forum Lincolnshire Chapter!

Truly a sign of the Apocalypse  lol

The monster is a Type I Demon (Vrock) from Otherworld, and a couple of the investigators are from RAFM's Space 1889 range (one of them didn't last long enough for Andrew to photograph :'( ).  David will have to tell you where the rest are from.

The two black coated chaps with the bowler hats are Ironclad Miniatures, the bloke in the trench coat with his hands in his pockets is a sleuth from Copplestone's Gangter range. The other humans belonged to Derek, and consisted of a mental old sea captain and a priest!

The figures that aren't Derek's were painted by the excellent majorsmith, it needs to be said.

Lots,of good stuff here, I like the choice of threshold miniatures.  The options seem endless.

Congratulations on your 1st game.  It both looks like lots of fun & a very pretty layout.

In our games, Frenzy strangely seems to be the most common Insanity result.  Always makes for very entertaining games.
Remember, remember, the Dalek December
With Paris in ruins and London in ember
In times of the future when fears are abating
Don’t try to forget them, the Daleks are waiting
Quietly planning and scheming and hating…

What a cracking introduction into the occult and the unmentionable horrors that lurk beyond the veil of sanity...

Great report, looking forward to more  :D
