rusty hangar on a concrete patch
« on: January 15, 2013, 02:49:34 AM »
started on this plasticville airplane hangar 2 weeks ago and put quite some time into painting the rust.
I thought a nice base would be fitting for this piece and remembered Sangennaru's excellent tutorial on concrete streets from MDF. (thread here : http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=26860.0)

And so I ended up with this :

The roof is removable for easy interior access (nothing fancy as it is only primed)
All rust colors used come from the Lifecolor Rust & Dust set.

Thursday I'm gonna try my first game of Mutants & Death Ray Guns and this will most probably find a place on the table.

I'm still not happy with the windsock, as I gather in a PA setting all that would remain of it would be some rags and another point I'm thinking of is some faint tire marks on the concrete, but here too, I'm not sure if those rubber particles wouldn't just dissappear over the years.

Looks as advertised to me. Great work. Now for a wrecked chopper or jeep, or a couple spilt oil drums.

Beautiful, sir.  I would be glad to have that on my Fallout table.

No, seriously, send it over.   :D lol

I'm still not happy with the windsock
I would find an old piece of sprue that is the same diameter as the wind sock post. Then attach a ring to it with some shreds of cloth or paper hanging down. Then replace the old wind sock.

Thanks all,

The chopper won't be for the near future, though I have a 1/48 Hind kit stashed away somewhere  :D
As for the windsock, I was already thinking in the line of the suggestion. I'm leaning towards medical bandage rather than paper.

Great stuff! 8)

I love the concrete; very realistic indeed. You mentioned tire marks; I'd go for it, if I were you. It would make the surface more interesting, as would (oil)stains and grass in between the tiles.

You certainly make getting some of those plasticville buildings more attractive... ;)

WOW Zizi, very nice. Love your rust effect and really love what you did with the building. Just out of curiosity where did you buy the plasticville stuff?

Regards,
Za
