The 2nd League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
« on: January 18, 2013, 02:04:23 PM »
The Lemuel Gulliver Fellowship
in London by the time of King George's War

From left to right:
Lemuel Gulliver,
Sir Percy Blakeney,
'Lady Blakeney' (Amber Clarimonde St. Clare) as 'the White Dove',
Reverend Doctor Christopher Syn,
Frances "Mana Peel" Hill,
Nathaniel "Hawkeye" Bumppoe,
Orlando as the Chevalier d'Eon.

While inferior sculpts the minis of the boardgame 'A touch of Evil'  -some available separately

others as 'Heroes packs' with playing cards &c.are probably more compatible with ranges of 'traditional' 28mm size than most of the examples illustrated.
(Btw the two young women in gown would be adequate to represent two of the Bennet sisters
by the time of Fontenoy and Culloden :D)

Not a few rules sets to choose from, though 'All for one: Regime Diabolique' looks specially fitting (firelocks instead of matchlocks probably don't change much of the mechanisms).
Hopefully someday Guy Davis will grant a license for a RPG dedicated to his Marquis

Who knows? Maybe the Marquis de Sade is no one else than the Marquis Vol de Galle having lost his sanity facing to many Hell Courtesans?

Edit: Antimattergames 'Cephalid siren' , her 'sea bottom' base removed, provides a good approximation of a Hell Courtesan:

I really like the effort on presentation with the links. It answered my questions before I could ask them!  ;)

The Vesper-on Games (Carnevale) 'Duke'  provides a tolerable approximation of the 'Marquis':

For the 'female foes', relevant and very inspirational conversions there.

I've forgotten it, but the Old Glory pack 'The Duelists' includes several figurines perfectly fitting for some members of the Gulliver Fellowship:

Btw could someone identify the 2 'undead Marines' *there* (sorry for the extremely poor quality of the image) -the figurine on the left is from Alternative Armies.

Lately i found myself wondering how long it would take before the Marquis would make an appearence. So here he is. As an admirer of D.A.F. de Sade i enjoyed the film Quills with a magnificent role of Geoffrey Rush and the always delightfull miss Winslet. It surely puts your imagination to work doesn't it.

Maybe, if the weirdest rumors only reflect the tip of the iceberg, the Hellfire Club providing a cover to a secret inner Lodge of Thelemites led by 'Frater Perdurabo' aka 'The Great Beast' (to be reincarnated, or to reappear publicly, as Aleister Crowley)?

While in a 2 players campaign the two 'factions' would be arch-enemies, in a multiplayers one there could be a multiplicity of factions (think 'Empire of the Dead') each with its own agenda, the opposition good - evil turning quite blurred as alliances switch. What is the officious position of the British crown with regard to the Knights Reliquar? The werewolves, at least some of them, can be ready to ally with humans against vampires and other undead 'monstrosities'; the same for ghouls (Crocodile Games have good 'Pickman' types) who are not undead but live beings. But even the vampires would not wish the world to be governed by the Great Old Ones, while fundamentalist Gnoticts may ally with worshipers of Azathoth, to speed up the 'dematerialization' of this Evil World created by the Demiurge...

As for 'human' rival groups, to the Crown's Reunited Occult Secret Services (King George II being the Supreme Governor of the Church of England) one can add at will:
- the French Cabinet Esotérique: the 'X Files' section of the Secret du Roi (its field operatives led by one Guy De Vere known in some circles as El Desdichado),
- the Jesuits of the Cella Rerum Occultorum Calcinationis (besides, their line being uninterrupted since Mary Magdalene went to Provence, the Pope has to have a Magdalena as his trump card),

- the Vatican's Officio XIII with its 'assassination group' Iscariota;

- the 'real' Freemasons if -as they claim- they are the heirs of the masons of the Temple of Jerusalem they could own the knowledge, or at least the practical know-how, of the builders of the pyramids. And this could be of importance, in the hypothesis: "'Elohim' = true plural (not 'emphatic' singular) thus 'CreatorS' = E.T.; 'Sons of G*d' (angels) mated with 'daughters of Man' -> Nephilim [-> Gibborim] (Elves / Melnibonéans?); educated Humankind -> Atlantis (& Mu); the Flood and the sinking of Atlantis caused by a war between E.T. colonies or hyper-advanced prehistoric 'half-breed' civilizations (the battle of Kurukshetra in the Mahabharata); knowledge partly saved (artifacts: the Ark, the Lance of Passion...) -->Pyramids builders." (of course you can add the Wichblade to the list of Great Artifacts of Power: a golden excuse do field a female character, since only women can wield it)
(At this time were the -still underground- Illuminati an inner secret circle or already a dissident branch?);

- the Prieuré de Sion. In addition to its first duty of protecting the Sangreal -the bloodline of the son of Jesus and Mary Magdalene who came to Provence with the Saintes Maries de la Mer. Not surprisingly the Priory's fiercest enemy originated as a dissident branch: during the Crusades some members who had joined the Knights Templar had an epiphany and understood the old French name of the Holy Grail as 'San Greal' rather than 'Sang Real'. Nowadays Die Zwielichthelden are the secret descendant of those Templars having taken refuge in Germany. They compete with the Priory in all fields but specially to preserve (and [mis]use?) the Grail –and the Cathars' secret heritage; yet they hate the French Crown and the Vatican as feverishly as the Frères do, but because of curse placed on the French Bloodline and the Church by the last Grand Master Jacques de Molay when burnt at the stake;

- an earlier form of the Golden Dawn / Thule Society gathering a cluster of Mjölnir amulet wielders, neo-druidists, wicca adherents and worshippers of the Triple Goddess: likely to be in relation (or at least trying to make contact) with Agartha and Atlanteans Successors sheltered in the 'Hollow Earth'; members actively seeking 'old knowledge' in shamanist cultures around the Baltic Sea, in Siberia and as far as Mongolia and North America. An intriguing potentiality is the possible knowledge (and even -successful?- tries to use in practice) of the Vril.
The Rosenkreutz / Rose-Croix may have been an earlier form of the Golden Dawn / Thule-Gesellschaft based in Lutheran Germany; may survive as a weak 'fundamentalist / traditionalist' secret Church faithful to its Christian roots?

Note that according to their ethos these diverse companies / factions will vary in their attitude toward 'modern' weapons: 'traditionalists' such as the Priory of Sion and the Templars are likely to shun them, 'modernists' such as the Free Masons will probably favor them, for instance using 'galvanic' weapons, throwing Leyden jars rather than holy water at 'supernatural' creatures.

As other possible 'factions' what about La Fraternité de Jean le Presbytre, the Sons of the Martyrs, a kind of 18th C. Bene Gesserit, the Bennet Circle and some very 'Lovecraftian' cults?

:D :D :D
With her left hand weapon converted, this 'Reverend Moira' (Infinity) would make a perfect Magdalena:
Shocking? Yes, I agree, her underwear is historically inaccurate for the 18th C.
:D :D :D

Unfortunately not, i had to retire from most aspects of active wargaming long ago and have to be content with what I see on the web.
Thanks, indeed they are the ones.

Potentially inspirational (but still searching funds through Indiegogo),  'a 18th century romantic zombie comedy':

 'The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet'  (she's a *ship* :D)
"It’s 1730 and the beautiful Buxom Strumpet, laden with goods from far flung shores, sails home to it’s little port town. All is not well however as she carries a plague most foul. The disease spreads fast and soon the inhabitants of Upper Trollop are ravaged, blood thirsty beasts. A band of survivors, led by Lord Frederick Fortitude, battle their way across town to jump aboard the Buxom Strumpet and sail to safety in France…or so they think! "

A development of the previous short “E’gad, Zombies”:
"The 1700′s…ish, Oxfordshire, England. In the sleepy town of Upper Trollop, there lived a poet named William Filthe’. He was in love with the beautiful but slightly terrifying Vanity Banks, and although she was engaged to his brother, William was blinded by love. One night however, an illness broke out turning all men into beasts. All thoughts of love strangely vanish when you’re running from an unstoppable foe in rather a lot of lace…"

As for appropriate rules, there is a cornucopia of available sets, each seemingly with original elements: indeed ideally a group effort (given the number of books and supplements to buy, peruse and analyze) would "break the bone and suck out the substance-full marrow"of all this documentation and write the perfect synthesis?

Eureka is to do a "Hawkmoon" figures range  :)

Exciting by itself, but from her first image Flana Mikosevaar could also become a mysterious 18th C. lady

An old sculpt, seemingly, but Eureka now is reported to have Moorcock's agreement.

A good ornithopter model would not be out of place in a Lacepulp / Lacepunk game.

Btw, if Heroclix does 28mm characters of Assassin's Creed III, Aveline de Grandpré

would be a great Lacepulp character (Heroclix minis turn quite good one repainted: while the commercial painting is too often awful, the sculpting is generally good).
