Gothic Horror Terrain insperation needed :)
« on: April 01, 2008, 03:05:42 PM »
Hi all,

Just thought I would share some pictures of the tables I have been scratch building.   I am gearing them up for some Gothic Horror style games,   (You may notice a sleepy hollow influence with one of the bridges)   I Just need to find general clutter to make the place feel lived (and died) in  :)

Also some non combatants to populate it and pigs for the pig pens.

Also any ideas where / how to expand the boards would be greatly recievec as i have kind of come to a stop and lost imagination.

Anyway onto the pictures so hopefully you folks can fill me with inspirational ideas on how to continue.  :?

Oh just so you know the bits around the windows in the roofs of the buildings have had thier frames painted black now to match the rest of the wood work.

Cheers all  :)

I'm sorry, you're asking us for inspiration?  :o

That board is astounding!

The only thing I would suggest is some graveyard bits and civillians from Blue Moon's Sleepy Hollow/Colonial range.

Otherwise, it's perfect as is.

Amazing. A beautiful piece of work.

West Wind Miniatures has several sets of figures suitable for that time. Gripping Beast makes some very fine pigs.

Nice board!

To add to the non-combatant list you can use the pack of AWI civvies from Perry miniatures. Conquest also have some nice armed civilian types.

Hovels do some nice livestock and also have a great little vignette of a blacksmith shoeing a horse. I suppose you could also add some vehicles. Old Glory and the Perries (among others) have suitable wagons.

How about a nice big and creepy dead tree on the village green?

Awesome looking terrain. :D
Every gothic town needs a cemetary with some twisted windswept trees or maybe a church with graveyard around it. Or the foreboding manor house surrounded by a high wall or a ruin?
As for figures Bluemoon or Westwind have what you need or Foundry

Ratcatchers, and troubadours stalk the streets while jobless soldiers and hunters gathering in knots around the town. A carriage passes through town, richly ornamented. The shades are up, but the occupants are invisible inside. Will it stop here? Normally the mail stage has come through by this time. Was it taken by highwaymen? From time to time comes a glimpse of finery - one of the merchant fathers of the town out on business, trailing clerks and servants like a comet's tail. Or perhaps one of the high ladies of the town, whether born to her station or one who gained it by her own personal charms.

Such are the streets of this burg.

That is absolutely stunning work! :o

It looks kind of spooky as it is with no people or animals.....like a ghost town.

A small graveyard would be good ( over-grown with broken head stones etc).

Lovely work.
The buildings are great, but the groundwork sets it apart.
I'm hard pushed to choose which I prefer between this and your ramshackle Future Wars town - both lovely in different ways.

You're clearly a person to consult on scratchbuilding buildings!

How about a gallows? And did I see a well? And maybe a church?

I always felt that corn (maize) fields look so desolate in the fall. Maybe that could be something to add? With a scarecrow?

Some trees

Or just a big gruff looking tree ?

Looks a bit Disneyland rather than New England in the fall, how about litter/rubbish/piles of horse poo ?

You could add some pumpkins, and maybe some laundry on a clothesline.
Far less active than I used to...
