WH40K 2nd Ed Orks
« on: January 23, 2013, 10:22:45 AM »
I really liked it when Orks were Orks, funny and unpredictable, not these kinda fierce reptilian orangutangs of nowadays (though I have plenty of them too ;)). I miss when they were painted with eye-hurting colours, thats what I'm trying to bring back.
I've just finished some 2nd Ed Ork characters. The iconic Ghazghkull Thraka:

Runtherd Zodgrod Wortsnagga:

And a Painboy:

Here you have them:

http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2013/01/second-edition-ork-characters.html

They are part of a wider project full of 2nd Ed Orks:

With some crazy conversions:

You can see it all (at least what I've already done) here:

Freebooterz, and Stormboyz!

I miss them too - when you played Orcs because you knew you'd end up killing half of your own guys - but it'd be a blast anyway.

Remember stormboyz with the rocket packs?  God knows where they'd end up or who they'd kill in the process...

Ooooh, I'm glad you talk about the Stormboyz, they're next on my workbench! ;)

That was the most enjoyable part of the game for me, not knowing what was going to happen next! People nowadays don't get it, they're only thrilled if they play to win. I've been back to play RT and I find it as funny as years ago, probably even more! I'm looking forward to play 2nd ed again too...

I seem to recall my one and only full game of 2nd Edition quite clearly. We were playing in my parent's driveway, after a bit of a painting session... we were in our teens.

A couple of turns into the game, my Shokk Attack gun fires at Marneus Calgar and, just like that, he gets clawed to death by the snotlings materialising in his power armour. So endeth the Chapter of the Ultramarines :)

True, fun days. And you've done some great work on the miniatures there. Although the Nob looks a little out of place... not because of your efforts, but just the style of sculpting.

I'm in the process of selling off all my later Orks to replace them with RT/2nd Edition sculpts :) Hope to have some posted up here eventually.

Keep it up!

Great project!

I have fond memories of these models, but I do prefer the new ones, I'm afraid!

That is may be the only v2 army that I will adapt to v6 though I like them.

Good to see the old figures- they are so much more fun than the new stuff. Like the paint jobs too!

I had a unit of 5 stormboyz disappear in a single turn.  Not from enemy fire...two flew off the board, two exploded mid-air, and one drifted into the open - under overwatch of numerous baddies.

Thems were the days.

Wow, great job on some classic minis! I have buckets of these fellas, and none of mine look anything like as cool as these - except a few that I got already painted from ebay a few years ago, which just make my own efforts look really bad.

Man, I've got to get better at painting. Anyone think I can suddenly improve after 35 years?

Anybody talked about Stormboyz? ;)
Just finished these:

No matter what, I still prefer the old models rather than the current ones, they have much more charm and personality.

I also made these Kommandos, with a Black Reach box Nob again (I had a real surplus of that model!). I hope I have improved a little since the last one:

Though classic, I didn't use the red/black camo pattern, I went for a duller palette, which could make the observer focus on red weapons an other details.

And the final result is this:

You can see the complete process here:

Thank you very much! I tried to catch up the style. My intention is bringing some RT Orks this week, we'll see the differences there.

Okay, these, I love and adore. Awesome work!

I love the old stormboyz, I really like the idea of them being young orks that have not grown up and become as anarchic as a full adult ork!

Damn childish, shining your boots and learning drill! AND MARCHING?!!!

hehe

The Kommandoes are great too. I like the new and old ones, but I like the uniforms of the old ones. Very cool. The Nob conversion has worked brilliantly!
