Tekelili...!
« on: October 26, 2006, 03:10:07 PM »
Hi all:

Maybe a silly question, but I was wondering how do the english-speaking people say that word of utter madness... "tekelili". In spanish there is (normally) only one sound for each letter, but this is not the case in english and the way we say "tekelili" in spanish I'm sure is not the way an english or american speaker does...

Of course, the german members of forum can say their thoughts too...  :)

I've always pronounced it with  short 'e's as in deck
so:  Teck-e-lilly

Although teek-ee-lee-lee with long 'e's may actually be better and closer to what Lovecraft wanted.

Being so, it is not so different than the spanish pronunciation... "teck-e-lee-lee"

hm, i usually pronounced it like "Tecke - leelee". But i think i just do so because i have heard it often pronounced this way in the great Song "Horror of Antarctica" from one of my favorite Bands called "The Vision Bleak"

If i remember right, there is a section in one of my old Cthulhu RPG books, where the writers included some information on pronouncing Mythos phrases. I will take a look when i am back from work.

Sorry, most of the Great old One names were explained but nothing about the Shoggoth and their eldritch mocking cries.  :(

How we hate those eldritch mocking cries!

What can we say in reply?

"Takes one to know one!"

"I know you are but what am I?"

or that American favourite,

"Yo' Mama!"

They all seem so inadequate! H

"Tekelili"...

"No, I´d rather have roses."

I don´t really like where this is going... it´s all fun and games until the first penguins, ravening with the fear of death are maimed.
