Looking for a wild west train
« on: February 06, 2013, 12:44:11 AM »
Hey folks

I'd like to put together a western themed train for games, but having trouble finding something that fits the theme, size and is affordable. The figures for my game are 30mm, and I think they fit pretty good with O gauge stuff, but all of that is expensive. I found a Lionel General engine for $50 on ebay, but I was hoping to do a whole train for that amount or a little more. I don't need anything that will run, I'm going to repaint whatever I get and I can even make the tracks myself if I need to..

Anyone have any ideas and or even better a link to an online store where I can buy something good? :)

Oh .. and, is O the way to go for 30mm figures? I was afraid HO would look too small.

Fastlane Western Express. You can find them on EBay for like 30 bucks & they scale up well.
I am looking for the following Deadlands minis:  Shotgun Thug, Lost Soul, Cleaners, Railroad Workers & Feral Dead. If you have any of these minis, or if you are one, please send me a PM.

Wow .. perfect :) $30 at Toys R Us. Do they sell extra tack pieces? Did a quick google but couldn't find anything. I need enough to go straight across an 8x4' table corner to corner :)

no matter of the scale from 1/43 to 1/48, 0-gauge has always the same track. look out for this on ebay. The toy trains will usually have it too, but try to avoid the metal track, it can get expensive
or simply buy two sets - it is always cheaper than replacement parts

Yeah, I was just thinking maybe I'll get 2 sets, use the extra track and extra cars & engine could be extra terrain pieces too. The track looks kind of flimsy though. I might mount some pieces on little bases like the way people make riverbeds. Then maybe I can see if I can make some resin casts if it turns out I need a lot more track. Planning out a special train robbery team game for GenCon :)

Nice cheap train set, might have to pick up a couple myself.
