Looking for suggestions for minis
« on: April 10, 2008, 05:38:11 AM »
Hello all. I am new to historical miniatures. I recently bought some Crusader WW2 German infantry online, and I am wondering how they compare to some of the other companies, in scale and quality, especially Artizan Design and Foundry.
Also, I am looking for some good WW2 skirmish rules. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

For rules, depends on the kind of game you're looking for.  Nuts! from Two Hour Wargames is good for a squad or so a side, quite grim with a high bullet deadliness quota.

For smaller, a few men a side, multi player games, have a look at Amazing War Stories from Rattrap.  Bullet deadliness quota is very low, heroes can be shot half a dozen times and still carry on and it works well with more character and plot driven games.

As for ranges that match up, it depends on your threshold for these things.  I play games with models from Crusader, Artizan, BAM, West Wind, AGN and Foundry on that table all together and think it looks fine.

Two first class sites for comparing these things are:

With West Wind you have to take a closer look, the older minis are true 25mm (though they have some of the best poses available).

For rules - on squad level (20-50 minis) there is a score of relatively new rules sets. To  name but a few:

- Disposable heroes/a coffin for 7 brothers
- Nuts!
- I ain't been shot, mum!
- Rules of engagement

To add spice to your games there is a series called Skirmish campaigns, adaptable for several rules sets with historical set ups.
If you come for the king, you better not miss (Omar)
