@Deedles: your town is absolutely awesome, much eyecandy there!!!  :).

What rules did you use?

thanks

"Blazing Dice" they are my home brewed mix of The Rules With No Name, Dusty Trails, Hollywood and playing with them

i have them in pdf if you want them.

I get my cards made by artcow.com , pretty usually pay around $10.00 USD for pack of 54 fully customisable , just wait on until they issue a free worldwide shipping offer and they cost me around £6.00 in the UK.

Thanks for the link mate, will have a Desmond at some point  lol. I use SGS from THW myself, because they lend themselves well for solo play.

Love what you did for the cattle. Where did you get them?

Love what you did for the cattle. Where did you get them?

They are 1/64th scale made by ERTL in scale terms they fit in alright with 28mm, cattle were I believe in general smaller then than now anyway. They are Hereford breed which were found in the west. Based on hexes so the herd or elements can random move on the roll of a d6.

I found them on Ebay from a US site cost $8.99 plus shipping. I bought two sets and in total paid about £18.00 . No import taxes as the original product value (not inc postage) was less than £15 gbp . arrived in 10 days. I was not able to find them at all in the UK.

They are a hard rubber/plastic and come pre coloured , just needed the eye painting in,matt varnish and basing

They have managed to kll a few guys who failed a reaction test when stampeding through town! The cattle rusting scenario I have run in the past was also good fun with the herd proving a real random element!

Ertl also makes a longhorns but they no longer make the big 24 pack and, apparently, they are now only available in one of the farm sets. You can occasionally find packs of 8 on ebay.

@Deedles: I think those cattle look right at home in your town, great find.  :)

Ahem, after seeing all the nice creations and takes on a western town by you lot here, I'm a bit hesitant to "show mine". I've always had a very tight budget and not invested a lot in the hobby, hence most scenery is paper craft (Eric Hotz' Whitewash City). BUT there's a change a gonna come! Since I've discovered the MDF buildings I've decided to replace the paper craft ones with MDF's. The paper craft are alright but there are two drawbacks IMHO, they warp easily and the b**ody chimneys come off all the time!!!

Now after all that yakking, I give you a rough outline of Ashbury, Colorado  :)!

Looks pretty good to me! We all start somewhere and you are planning a gradual upgrade of your buildings so it will only get better. As long as you can play a game and have a good time everything else is secondary.

fully agree

Legionnaire, fear not just build up bit by bit as you go, and simple scratchbuild is pretty cost effective too

Legionnaire - you can also spruce stuff up with some home-made terrain.  Lollipop sticks and bits of wood can be had cheap from the craft store.  Old West stuff is one of the few things where you can get away with simply cutting/hacking and gluing and it'll pass.  My town is all MDF cut stuff for the buildings, but almost everything else is hand-made out of wood bits.

PS: Deedles, I'd been looking at ESCI/ERTL cattle...and I happen to have over 100 mdf hexes sitting in a box.  I may have to steal your D6 scatter idea, pretty slick!

I once looked up real genuinely odd Old West town names and came up with this list.

Cumming
Climax
The mind boggles at some of these.

These two are towns here in Georgia.  Still inhabited.
This is my boomstick!
