Sources for 15 mm historical figures for fantasy games
« on: March 25, 2013, 06:00:36 PM »
This does not constitute a sign that I am going to build a 15 mm army but is the result of an inconclusive discussion between a 28 mm fan and myself (the 1/300th - 1/600th fan) about historical figures suitable for large sized Fantasy war games (one [of the few]things we agreed on is that you need a smaller sized figure set if you want to do large battles common in fantasy gaming.)  The other was that neither of us was "conversant" in 15 mm figures.

So, any ideas on 15 mm sources for historical figures from the fall of Rome to (but not including) the later Renaissance era?

I would request 10 mm fans start a different thread (which I encourage because that would be enlightening) because the 28 mm fan refuses to consider anything below 15 mm in size.  (To my friend, I repeat those immortal words - "Whatever, dude!"   :)  Yes, that is an inside joke.   lol )

Gracias,

Glenn

Peter Pig?
They have some ancients (conquerors & kings)
dark age (vikings)
War of the Roses (bloody barons)

and also a few fantasy figures

Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

I have used Essex Miniatures for some fantasy games before; namely the fuedal ranges for the likes of Bretonnians or Westeros troops etc.

Some of the ranges aren't great but all in all a good supplier with a huge catalogue of figs.

I've mentioned it before, but I'm still pondering over Mirliton late medievals and Corvus Belli HYW for A Song of Ice and Fire.

I really like Essex miniatures, especially as they're very cheap and have a very comprehensive range. I also really like Peter Pig and Donnington have some useful bits but I'm not overly fond of some of their sculpting styles.

I've just ordered a bunch of minis from Legio Heroica, as they look quite nice.

Haven't received them yet, but will report when I do... hopefully soon.  :)

Splintered Light have a number of very nice ranges. I'm a big fan of the Arthurian stuff.
Copplestone is supposed to be working on Fantasy Romans for his 15mm line right now, and if they are the quality of his Conanesqe barbarians, they will be a real treat!
