Yes, great painting, but the sculpts don't look like real apes. They seem very well suited to use as some kind of ape-monster, rather than the real thing. Perhaps something from a lost world, or a secret evil experiment.

Obelisk Miniatures, eh?  Many thanks chaps.  My spidey sense tells me that they'll soon be recieving an order from me.

All I need to do now is to find where my missus has hidden my credit card.  She's been gardening recently so I'd best go and get my trowel...

It's not a long way, you're just there!

To all those budding explorers of African mammals: These apes are NO Gorillas. The range is called Darkest African FANTASIES and not What-Copplestone-didn't-do-in-Darkest-Africa or the cheap-alternative-to-Foundry - besides the silverback they do is far too big!

Nowhere in the shop it say "gorillas" They are called Lords of the Jungle - and they are.

BTW a gorilla standing on his front feet (hands?) is rarely taller than a human figure. These minis are about 4,5 cm tall, so considerably taller than that.

The other question which crept to my mind is: what is voted for - painting or sculpts? I know that you hardly can seperate them but you can mess up a good scuplted mini as well on the other hand expert painters like Admiral Benbow can even turn out a poor sculpt into a small piece of art (that doesn't mean the LotJ are poor sculpts!)!

So my vote is clear in favour of A.B. as he has a fantastic painting style and takes on unusual subjects.

From my point of view as a sculptor I vote only for the unusual and not those things you always get to see in competitions or on miniature painting sites unless they are done in an exceptionally frilling style.

Hazel, you're the man. Always liked your flags, but this is awesome! And you've done justice to the sculpts - Perrys?
A tough choice, though. Like gorillas very much, even administered to some projects to save their hometrees.

I like these "Kings of the Jungle" a lot. The painting is very good.

They remind me of the "Gorillas" in the Tarzan movie with Christopher Lambert.

They also remind me of my beloved picture clicker ( looked like binoculars and you fed the device with round dias and click them ) that I had when I was a kid.

I had the "Tarzan story in pictures" and the Apes looked also very similar to the ones that Josef sculpted.

I have the Baboons already...one day I `ll get me the Kings of the Jungle !
Cheers

I think it was called "ViewMaster"  :) Long time ago. It gave the 3D impression.
