First VSF Conversions
« on: April 30, 2013, 11:44:18 PM »
Hey all! Been browsing these forums for a while (awesome source for inspiration on all things miniature) and finally decided to stick my head above the parapets.

I have not really done anything VSF or steampunk (apart from Warmachine, which dosen't count) so am keen to get your thoughts on my humble efforts.

I was very fortunate to pick up a copy of In Her Majesty's Name at Salute and so have become fired up with all things VSF. I have not been this enthused about model making and painting since I first got into Song of Blades and Heroes (high praise that is given how obsessed I became with that game!)

Without further ado... my first Prussian conversions (and sorry in advance for the rubbish pics!):

So far only the steam armoured troops are painted:

And so far undercoated (and broken after this pic was taken!):

Let me know what you think, and please be as honest as you like whilst still being gentlemanly!

It would be a pleasure to have my Brits spanked by Huns such as these, were you on a more convenient side of the Atlantic.

Nice start. What figures are the armoured guys based on? I assume those are 40mm bases?

If you can, I'd suggest adding small rivets to the edges of the armour plates, doesn't need many but would take away the clean lines they currently have.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Thank you guys for the comments, you are true gentlemen one and all.

Dewbakuk: the armoured guys are based on allied power armour from Dust Tactics with heads from Curious Constructs, a simple weapon swap and some plastic tubing. And yes are indeed on 40mm bases.

Thanks for the advice and I will certainly try to add rivets once I am done moving back to London (at the moment half my hobby supplies, tools and flock are in another city).

Thanks a bunch gang for all the encouraging comments. You guys are the best.

This evening I decided to forgo painting my Prussians and instead focus on tinkering with my steam tank for the British. This is now on its third configuration in as many days and is in a pretty crude state still with plenty of detailing and tidying up to be done.

Any feedback, suggestions and nicely worded criticisms are welcome!

Oh and Dewbakuk:I tried dry fitting some rivets on the armour of those prussians today. On the chest armour they looked like nipples and it freaked me out so I decided against it lol.

Wow, I like the "awkward power" look of that tank!

Gears galore and it just seems "right" in that respect.

The Turret I want to consider some more before giving an opinion...

Gracias,

That tank is bonkers, I like it :)

 lol

Where are your nipples?  :o
You don't want any on the larger areas, just along the edges of the armour. This is an extreme example but shows what I mean.

Thanks! Awkward was deffenetly something I was going for. I imagine this thing to be an early attempt at locomotion without rails or some sort of hastily rigged up compromise weapon that has just been kept around since.

The Turret I want to consider some more before giving an opinion...

The turret has been one of the biggest bugbears of this project. Origionally I wanted something more like the turret of the Monitor but was unable to source usable bits amongst my mountains of lead, resin and plastic (trying to opperate on a tight budget so apart from the chasis of a 1:32 scale universal carrier, all the bits are from the bits box).

I have to say the turret has grown slightly on me since the glue fuemes stopped giving me a headache so its not my biggest concern at the moment.

That's actually really neat. I think I will have to get some finer plastic rod and then try not to go over board. Maybe less is more when it comes to models of that size. Thanks for the suggestion! Will go and ahve another go next week.
