Thank you all! :) It's been tedious sometimes, specially as I've been doing this for months, from time to time, taking small minutes from other projects, but in the end I think it's worth it. I'll post a game report soon, let's see if it was ;).

Oh, but where's the fun on that? (Yeah, I'm nuts ;D)

Hehe, yes you are. I'm happy that I'm just poco! :D

Oh, man! There is a Conan version? I wasn't aware, I really need that!

Yip, this one: [http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/27848/age-of-conan-the-strategy-board-game

Wow - excellent stuff. I'm not familiar with the game but I want to be now.

Reminds me of the time I contemplated painting the figures out of my then favourite game - Risk!  ;D

I only ended up contemplating that madness by the way!

Thank you! :) Here you have the pic that makes all this worth it:

The game is amazingly close to the book, it really takes you to Middle Earth. Somewhat complicated, nevertheless; you have to carefully read the rules a couple of times before playing it. I'm pretty sure we did some things wrong, but it was utterly fun however. You can read my report here (with additional explanations on the game):

http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2013/04/playing-war-of-ring-boardgame.html

And some pics that hopefully make you interested in the game ;).

The Fellowship starts at Rivendell...

Our particular assault on Helm's Deep

The Witch King is back in Dol Guldur!

From Umbar...

...To the siege of Dol Amroth

Conquest of Erebor

The Shadow is really strong in the game, the Free People's only chance is try to get the Ring to the Orodruin, they cannot stand in front of the armies of the Darkness, sooner or later they will finally succumb. As a matter of fact, in our game Sauron just conquered all the Free People's Strongholds, depriving them of any chance of win. In addition, Frodo was dangerously near of succumbing to the One Ring :?. The game really catches up the essence of the LoTR world, its dynamic is quite narrative. The diplomacy, the Ring 'corruption points', the Character actions, Gollum leading the Fellowship... Everything is very, very atmospherical.

So, if you have some hours to play (and some previous hours to learn how to), you might want to have a try at this game. Totally reccomended :).

I agree. This is a fantastic game that gives a very LOTR experience, as Frodo inches ever closer to Orodruin, hunted by Nazgul and more and more 'worn by sorrow and toil' as the strongholds of the Free Peoples fall to the Shadow's massed armies.

And yours looks amazing now!

Looks great Suber!  :-*

It's been ages since I last played the game  :'(

I guess you had the movie soundtracks playing in the background? :)

Suber! Somehow I missed this thread! Everything looks so good, I really like the pic with all the minis on the board. I am buying this game for Christmas (and it is your fault!).

Everything is so well painted, you should be proud of this project.

Haha, thank you all! :D

The first time you have to face the rules it looks a little overwhelming for a boardgame, but once you are on it, you can't but enjoy the experience. I've later noticed than the game is obssesively detailed to the extent that in fact the shortest way from Rivendell to Mordor goes through Moria (10 map areas) and I bet that the way you have more chances to win is following just the story, splitting the Fellowship up right after that and so.

There are a lot of options and actions you have to deal with, but once you get the dynamics, the game is just great. I had the same feeling about the Battlestar Galactica boardgame (and shamefully it's been ages since I don't play).
Of course I don't want to boast of the minis, but even this simple basic paintjob enhances the experience, much better than playing with 'plastic pieces' ;). And of course you need the soundtrack! That's essential! :D

Damien, thanks! :) But why are you waiting 'til Chrismas? ;D

I took a size comparative pic with a 28mm mini (the pic is awful, even for my standards, but you get the idea...)
