New build... 1/56 D7 Dozer
« on: April 06, 2013, 12:36:22 AM »
Started this last week, and since it will be an official release it sort of took away time from the T-16.  But now they are both far enough along to build in parallel.

First was to build the engine!  It took me awhile to dive in..but once the basic engine block was taking shape, it went pretty quickly to add all the details.

Now, the engine is pretty much done. I'm thinking that an engine may be pretty cool as a stand alone accessory.  So I may cast this in metal by itself.  Anyway, it drops right into the actual model, which is also starting to take shape:

and with the engine in place:

and with it's big "digging and pushing tool" useful for making airstrips on small pacific atolls.

Next phase it to start the tracks.  Great, since I have to do those on the T-16 as well.

More progress.  Made the top cowl for the engine, some fine tuning and additional work on the blade.

Next is the cable/pully system for the blade, and the tracks...

Gorgeous!. You really should sell the engine as a separate item as well as part of the kit. I can imagine quite a few people wanting a diesel engine for use as a generator, as a centerpiece to a workshop or even some rusty detritus for a junkyard. It has such lovely detail it really deserves to be shown off.

Now to fund those tracks, please sell me three BTR-152s and a couple of BTR-40s please.  :)

BTR's... Moderns are being spun off into a new partnered Company B entity..probably run by me.  This will allow them to be in charge of their own destiny so to speak.  AS part if that, we're working on having a new partner casting these in the UK, as well as JTFM in north america to facilitate better pricing and availability.  More on that later this spring.

I may do a short run of a closed BTR-50 this month when I get ready to make copies of the parts for the T-16 and Dozer tracks.  This would be for LAF readers only, so if your interested, let me know.

More progress on the Running Gear.  Now all I need to do is the tracks.

I'll be setting a mold this week for a small section of track as well as parts for the T16 tank.  So this could be completed very soon.  Now it just needs crew.

Would be interested in the open top version. Just out of curiosity Brent, I looked at the shapeways BTR-40. Is that right that I need to buy the hull and the interior separately?  $50 + p&p for something I'm going to have to clean up was a bit of a sticker shot.

The D7 looks great btw.

Yes, shapeways is expensive....I'm making only $2 per print!

But, a new solution for the moderns is coming.  Some test casting will be taking place in the next few months for customers in the UK and Europe, and I will try some molds here stateside for limited release versions.

Most likely, some LAF exclusives will be coming.
