Hi Bezzo

Yes I have let the toe nails grow a bit...
The reason I have left the feeds from the base to the foot is because throught my own cack handedness I managed to crush a number of these toys ...  :'( In the re straightening I feared I may have caused some weakening in the ankles ... :?  Not something you want in an elite unit :D ...
So some wire through the base and foot and the feed ( I like to think long piece of grass )left on.
Lesson learned ....take more care of toys :D

All the best. Aly

Intriguing project, not my cup of tea I'm afraid but interesting none the less  :)

Quick question if I may. Have you found it difficult to paint in the toy soldier style after painting in the 'normal, wargaming one?

cheers

Hi Bezzo
The 'crushing ' actually happened early on in the project I have only just got round to painting them...
So I must confess ...I chickened out of trimming any of the feeds off :?

I obviously blinded you with their shininess  :o

I am going to resist the temptation to do the deed at the moment ..I shall see what things look like at the end ...

All the best. Aly

Hi James

To be honest I have been painting in both ( in fact many ) styles for so long I switch from one to the other quite easily...
The knack with painting toy soldier style is to keep things neat and try and use single clean strokes for the detail work ... I actually find it quite relaxing :)

Hmmmmm .... That piece of advice is good for all painting isn't it  lol

Hi James
There is a really good article on painting toy soldiers by Andy Partridge on the Irregular Miniatures web site... He takes quite a scientific approach to it ... I found it all very inspiring

http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/

Go to the Deutsche Homage section and scroll to the bottom...

Like all painters of 'new' toy soldiers he is a lot neater than the originals ever were, I will try and post some images of original Britains from my own collection when I get a chance

i love the running rifleman, one question though, can you remove the support from the leg? or will it effect the miniature?

Hi majorsmith

Rose miniatures ....now there is a blast from the past..
I shall check John Eden out ...thank you

The running figures are fine without the feed attached to them......
Unless you force a drawer closed on them and make them bendy and weak at the ankles....
Not that I would do anything like that.... :'(

Hi Guys

As promised here are some toys from times gone past...

They are...
A Manoil (love that name) Dimestore Mortar Man
A Grey Iron US Marine (made from cast iron)
A Barclay US Sailor
And last but not least a Britains Charging Highlander...

As you can see the painting is not up to the standard we would expect today ..but the are still full of charm and in my mind very desirable..

The second picture is a Test paint job for when the Marines turn up to save the day  :D

All the best  Aly

majorsmith... just checked out John Eden.... Going to spend money lol

cheers for the pic Aly, they look even better without the support! love your old Britains highlander too! the old Rose stuff is really nice, i think John Eden sells stuff on eBay sometimes you can get it cheaper bidding, i got a load of imperial German stuff from him a while back, he can be a bit slow at times but you always get the figures!

oh his ebay name is roseminiatures funnily enough, hes not selling anything at the moment though!
