(KICKSTARTER) Empress Modern
« on: April 25, 2013, 01:52:19 PM »

We thought that we would have a go at the new phenomenon that is Kickstarter as it seemed a great way to finance a large project in one go. Thus benefitting both us and the customers.

With this in mind something new was called for and so many months ago we decided on a kind of Cold War goes Hot........in the Pacific.

Recent events in that theatre have caught up with us but our initial thought process was that with growing Chinese economic power at some point there would be a clash.

The range will start with USMC moving onto PLA and including Australians, Special forces, local island militia, and perhaps Japanese.

Here are some pictures of the initial sculpts.

PLA

USMC

These figures come with seperate heads with helmets and boonie hats.

We hope you like the idea and any and all suggestions are welcome.

Paul

Oh no! Not yet another KS that I will have to get involve in!

lol

Seriously, which "period" it’s supposed to cover? Late 80’s?

Not a region I had ever thought of gaming, but it does seem very promising :)

I like the modern USMC sculpts.

While Western forces are important, you already have a lot of US Army, British Army, Delta and SAS.
What is needed is plausible enemies.
These could be regular (Chinese or North Koreans) or "Far eastern" insurgents (e.g. Indonesians, Philipino).

Do you have any sculpts of the Chinese Army - that would be very interesting to see?

The whole idea sounds very interesting - When will you start?

Regards

Mick

The top two photographs are PLA, at first glance I thought "USMC" but with a closer look the rifle and webbing gave the game away, anyway hope that helps  :)

Ok, thanks.

I would probably buy some Chinese PLA (and some North Koreans).

I agree that North Koreans might be a popular choice of opponent - although not on the list so far as I can see - I'm not sure if there are many potential conversion candidates out there? (Maybe cold war soviets with moderate-substantial modifiactions?)

I was really against the whole Kickstarter concept but joining the West Wind Requiem was a fun (and expensive) experience. I was really happy though with the final outcome and the very professional way the project was handled. After the TAG Tudor historical Kickstarter failed I fear though for historical KS projects. I am not sure I understand what period we are talking about here, a fictional conflict in the far east? "local island militia" sounds fun but does it have any connection to actual historical events?

VERY interested in some Chinese, although I have absolutely no idea why! Might be the first time I back a Kickstarter pledge

Like the idea, and North Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese would be innovative, but don't you already do US and UK miniatures? How different will these sculpts be? Seems a bit redundant. I'd rather see something new added that could be used for other theaters as well such as Modern Russians or even Indians/Pakistanis or some other country contiguous with China.

I agree with axabrax.

I already have (almost) one of each Empress sculpt of Modern US Army, British Infantry and SAS.
My priority is opponents for them not allies or other US / British units.

I might buy 4 of each allied force to paint up for display but I would buy 30+ of interesting enemies.

SO has the Kickstarter been posted yet, or is this just info on your plans? I have a copy of Force on Force on the way, as well as a copy of rules for The Battlefield, so I would love some minis to go with it.
