Bugs for the Hive
« on: April 26, 2013, 12:38:26 AM »
Other than my Khurasan (Vespulid Swarm and Feral Parasachnid) bugs (about a month overdue, waiting to hear from Khurasan,) I have just got the Terror Mites and Death Striders today.  I want to evaluate (and assign game characteristics) these then diversify and add more of the figures I think best reflect the "Diversity Nightmare" (or is that redundant?) that makes up my model of "The Bugs" for gaming.

Pictures to follow after I remember how to post them...

Gracias,

Glenn

While I am struggling to re-learn posting pictures, let's talk "bugs".

I thinking of having both "workers" and "warriors" in (essentially) all the types of bugs I want to field.

Final names TBD but here's the current draft

Standard - Workers (base color green) and warriors (base color brown) which essentially do HTH.

Workers can kill not armored and lightly armored figures, moderate chance of killing heavy armored figures and light Power Armor (PA) figures, no chance of killing (but decoying/distracting) standard or heavy PA figures.  Can (poorly) fight, can carry off figures (multiple purposes) and can achieve goals within their capabilities (sucha s transport items into the hive.)   :o

Warriors can kill anything but heavy PA in HTH and have a good chance of killing heavy PA.  Attack on sighting non-Bug figures.   :o  :o

Specialist - these would be Bugs with natural capabilities mimicking "Special Weapons" effects.   8)

Electrical - indicated by one or more yellow dots on the carapace which can kill in HTH non-PA and short out PA (paralyze the PA suits - recoverable based on a quality die) with a slight chance to kill PA troops.   o_o

Fire - shoot a natural substance that bursts into flames either as an area effect (if "missed") or a single figure if hit.  Red dot(s) instead of yellow on the carapace.   o_o

Skirmisher - shoots shards (TBD) that pierce and kill non-PA figures and act as AT type rounds on P figures.  Indicated with blue dots on the carapace.  ::)  o_o

Gunners - Bugs who are advanced enough to use actual "weapons" very much like human weaponry (copied from previously conquered alien races) and capable of semi-independent (pre-programmed) actions.   :o  8)  o_o

Brain - not on the table except in special scenarios.  Several types which will need to be discovered or captured by the humans to reveal exact capabilities.   :D

Queen - One per colony (more than one colony can exist on a large world but they only affect their own "children" Bugs.)   ???

Empress - Does this character actually exist?   :o   ;)

Maybe more if I give it some more thought.

Gracias,

Glenn

All my bugs have arrived (Yea, Khurasan Miniatures!) and (after paying bills) I hope to finish assembling them and get some pictures posted.  There is a tremendous diversity of nastiness in the bugs I have collected so far and I may ask LAF'ers for their thoughts to help me decide what bugs best represent the non-sentient part of the hive cultures before I move unto the semi-autonomous and autonomous bugs which will include tool and weapon users.

Between Khurasan and Rebel Miniatures I have a wide range of size and style bugs in these first waves.  Hopefully I can get them next to the Reviresco figures I am using for various kinds of human PA troops.

Gracias,

Glenn
