Andym's 7th Voyage (Photobucket links repaired!)
« on: April 26, 2013, 11:18:10 PM »
Hi all!!

A week after Salute my head is swimming with ideas for WAY to many things!! o_o First up, my brother and myself picked our copy of the 7th Voyage rules at the show and I'm itching to try them out!!

Along with the love-er-ly Salute figure we got in the goody bags, I also got a sprue of Victorex Athenian Hopilites to act as my cast for the game. I'll get some pics of them later when I get some better light.

But enough of the padding, what I REALLY need is a board to play on. It's the main thing we've been missing from our games recently is terrain specifically for 7tv stuff. After seeing the Crooked teams board, I decided to build me own.

What I did find in my hunt for inspiration is this great site...

http://livlily.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/sinbad-legend-of-seven-seas-2003_04.html?m=1

This link leads to the main thing I was looking for, designs for the animated version of Sinbad.
If you look at these, and similar, drawings the artists have worked out some great settings. Sometimes they are a bit over the top, but the inspirational stuff is diffinatetly there!! For the 7th Voyage stuff, I figure Aladdin, Sinbad, El Dorado amongst others are a good place to start. I specifically liked these two drawings...

I liked the idea of steps down to the water and plinths either side and also in the second drawing there's a picture of stairs with a lions head on the front. I decided to run with the lion theme with my board, using the lion castings from my Nelsons Column model and make some more to go about. Here's my ideas for the board...

First up I got a bit of MDF from B&Q and a board of polystyrene from Antenocities workshop(600x600x50mm). The lions head on the plinth is Greenstuff and the plinth itself us foamboard and embossed plastic card brickwork. The stairs are built with  stepped foamboard and covered in blue foam made to look like stone....

The lions head is going to be, somehow, copied so its not glued in yet. Here's some so the scatter terrain that will be placed on top, hopefully made to look sand covered when painted...

The board has now also been cut and textured to look like stone...

Now I just need to try and get this finished within a week, for our gaming night!! No pressure!!

Oops! We really should talk more!! ;) The reason I did this was that I haven't got my room back, my esteemed guest is still here! This is the stuff I can do that wont cause a mess! I figure the crane will cause sawdust!! I've got some more MDF and foam cut to size ready for that one! :)

You've done all this since Salute? I'm seriously impressed and am going to enjoy watching this unfold.

Yes, this is all a weeks worth, doings bits here and there. I'm desparate for a quick table for my own place! I've also cleaned and built 6 Greek cast members and turned a Kinder egg Camel toy into a pack Camel! ;)

Thanks chaps/chapettes!!

I will also look forward to seeing this unfold.

You're going to copy the lion's head with a rubber mould and resin?

That's the plan. My mate, Oldskoolrebel on the forum, is going to try it for me! Although I think he said he was going to try dental plaster! ???

Anyway better light this morning, but I'm afraid I've only got a crappy phone camera to use!!...

First up, Andreus Macus. Salute fig, with the head modified so no face is seen....

The rest are the Victorix Athenians(I'll need to get names for the rest of them! It's bad luck to play characters without names!! ;))

And finally, Bob the camel. Kinder egg toy with green stuff to hide the joins and GS and spare weapons for the pack stores.....

This is great work, Andy.

Like what you have done with the salute mini, although I would prefer the shield pose I think. The helmet must have been fiddly. I haven't looked at my mini yet was the visor separate or did you have to cut.

well done though

Looking good.

I must return to my own Ancient Greek/Mythical Greek project one day. I have loads of 40mm figures (Inc. Skeletons) that are just gathering dust in my to-do box.

Dental plaster is a good choice for a piece like that. It will allow you to chip bits away and add weather damage etc while still being hard enough to withstand gaming.

I've always wanted to do some Sinbad/Aladdin style gaming. I might need to take a look at these rules...
