« on: April 28, 2013, 12:26:11 PM »
Hi there,
I'd like to show a Troll from Banelords that a friend gave to me to slap some paint on.

Greetings

That is one NASTY LOOKING Dude...your FINE brushwork brings out every ounce of that nastiness! I'm not normally a rust fan, but you did an INCREDIBLE job on it. VERY WELL DONE!

That is some great painting you have done there. Where is that troll from? Looks absolutely awesome. Not to mention your painting skills. That rust looks as rusty as it comes.

GS, it is 8am here and I am looking at your thread while eating breakfast (sleepy eyed) and as I was reading and slowly scrolling down I got to the face and thought 'what the hell?, is that real?' then my sleepy mind started working and I thought wow. This has to be one of the best paint jobs (re. most realistic) I have ever seen, everything is amazing: the face, the rust, the skin etc, etc. Out of this world fantastic.

Great stuff,
 Damien

It's unbelieveable, the resin troll slipped from my fingers and dropped 10 cm to the table. It snapped off thwo toe nails and the nails shot behind my cupboard never to return agein. I had to rebuild them...

OK,
I was requested to share the techniques in a German forum, too. Let's give it a try, I'm not that fluent in English.

It all started with a priming of cheap acrylic spray paint from a DIY shop. Then a thorough white dry brushing to make the fine modeling visible.

Then I just used glazes to put on the colors of skin and leather.
Last some highlighting in normal paint, not glaze.

The rust is made in the way described in Rackhams CryHavoc journal:

On readily painted metallic or nmm I used Vallejo dark brown wash to outline the rusty spots. I did this very wet. Into the wet spot I put a little chestnut brown to mix in wet in wet style. This is still done rather wet to let the two colors mix with one another. Next step is Vallejo Parasite Brown wet in wet into the middle part of chestnut brown.
Let dry completely. Then give all of it a wash with Army Painter Dark Tone out of the dripper bottle.
Last step is to pick out some details of the plate and axe with silver.

Lastly I can tell everybody that I managed a repair. I'm no sculptor but it'll work, I think.

Best regards
GS
