Hi All,

I am looking for civilian vehicles that would look ok next to my 1/56 military vehicle, and am hoping someone could offer advice.  It seems most of what I have found is 1/48 or larger, which I think will dwarf everything I currently own.   I know people are using some of the Yesteryear toy cars, but it seems the scales can very, so I hesitate to buy unseen.  Can anyone who currently owns them comment on if any specific vehicles are at 1/56 or close to it?

Thanks!
Chris

I have a selection of maybe 5 or 6 different Yesteryear vehicles and they all seem fine scale wise. I can post a photo of them side by side later if you want.

Hi Just John,

If you'd be willing to photograph them next to a 1/56 vehicle, that would be much appreciated!  If you could list the model as well, that would be a great help in trying to locate them on ebay.

Again, thank you for the help!

Chris

I only use Lledo, which I buy of ebay. They have a good selection of vans and trucks, but not cars. They are not expensive, costing about £1-4 each. Sometimes you can buy a load for a good price.

here's a few pics of mine

Hi Chris -  I'll take some photos later today. I'm not sure I have any 1/56 vehicles but I could put a Musketeer mini beside them for scale if that helps.

This is really helpful John! Thanks!

Based on what I can find online, the scale for each car is as follows:
Crossley 1/47
Opel 1/38
Vauxhall 1/47
Bugatti 1/38
Ford 1/35

It looks like the 1/47 kits or smaller might work, but I think the larger ones will dwarf my armoured car. I'll have to start trolling Ebay for some options then.  I'll post what I get here for others' reference.

Those Crossleys are the best vehicles you can get for this period. I have dozens myself, have bought dozens for the guys at the club,  and they go really well with all of our figures. They can be cheap as chips on ebay if you're prepared to be patient. I have seen idiots bidding them up and up, but have seldom paid more than 99p for one myself.

They convert easily, they are perfect for ICW, VBCW, can be used for other periods too. They can be military or civilian,

Other than those, but much more expensive, are the Rio Fiat trucks. fabulous detail, and great to own, but if you want just lots of vehicles which are spot on, go for the Yesteryear Crossleys every time.

I'd second the recommendation of the Matchbox Crossleys - I picked up a job-lot of the RAF version (as Just John has on his pictures) with tilts for the rear as well for not a lot at a local toy fair. With an "army green" paintjob they're now the standard ride for all my Bristol TA units.
I've also got a file box full of assorted Lledo vans and trucks - I think they're nearer 1/64, but they work for me.

Thanks Everyone,

I've decided to start with a 1931 Morris Courier from Matchbox, which is supposed to be 1/59 scale. I'll post some photos when it arrives.

Does anyone know if there is an online listing of the Lledo cars with approximate scales?  I've found a site for Matchbox http://www.matchbox.3kom.ru/index_e.htm, but am struggling with Lledo.
